The problem with the viewpoint of those who are against letting the Market determine the SUV issue is that they have seemed to forgotten what the Market is . . . . . it is the actions of millions of individual people determining what choices they make based upon what they determine is right for them. - - - Of course, these same anti-Market individuals are against freedom of choice when people choose in a manner they disagree with. - - - I drive an SUV. I travel between the eastern & western regions of my state from 2 to 8 times a month including during the winter, over snow covered mountain passes. Does some politician in DC know more about my requirements than I do? If I run off the road in the winter are they going to pull me out of the snow bank or pay for my medical costs? I think not.
Let the market and the consumer dictate what we drive. I purchased an SUV that meets many of my needs: 1: 4WD for NorthEast winter driving 2: Engine capacity to tow daughters two horse trailer (7000lbs) 3: Seating for 8 when we take the family and visitors out. The U in SUV stands for "utility" - would it make any sense to purchase a pick up truck for towing, an 8 seat van or to take two vehicles on trips with visitors?
While we're banning things, do you think we could get the government to ban retracements. It is just so unfair that the market throws these curve balls that cost me money. Trading would be so much less stressful - and more profitable! Email your congressman today...
yeah but retracements doesnt cause wars that costs trillions of dollers and hundreads of thousands of lives ahem Iraq. Face the facts the iraq war was permitted on a tacit agreement that iraq would be a safe haven for cheap and free flowing oil. that hasnt happen. Thats why a tin pot dictactor in iran can push around the US. And some nigerian rebel can make demands from the US. You already lost constitutional freedoms, why not give up your suv so you wont have to fight a war in Iran? I keep stressing that war part, b/c right now it seems enivitable. To the conservatives it makes sense. If they can control iran's oil, it would bring cheap oil to the US. But they are discounting all of the eventually diffulculties, like the ones happening in iraq. The political fallout of banning suv's, is nothing compared to the economic damage a war with iran could bring.
I'm not giving up my SUV, nor am I going to war in Iran. As much as our government would like to go to war with Iran I believe it would be impossible to pull off without first leaving Iraq. On top of that, China and Russia are not going to go along with it. Unless our foreign policy changes drastically in the next decade this has the makings of WWIII with the US govt. as the instigator.
I'm sure people once wondered about the cure to the shortage of whale oil ... There was enormous,.. ENORMOUS, wealth bestowed upon those who answered that question. doom-gloom-doom-gloom-doom-gloom
America is getting screwed. Period. Yes, it is great and wonderful that today we buy our oil from a liquid and global commodities market guaranteeing supply and demand, unlike the crap that happened in the 70s⦠BUTâ¦. it doesnât matter how liquid and how fair and orderly the market is: the âGreater Fool Theoryâ still applies. When there are enough people who make the decisions to buy oil futures contracts who cower to the same kind of Leftist pussy-foot kool-aid, you have a problem. They are fearful of the people who sell oil, namely, Isamists and Communists. Yes, there are a minority of oil producers who are democratic and Western, like Canada, but pay attention to the majority of oil producers: they are setting the global price through propaganda that works. Islamists and Communists. True, if you look at recent history, you see Americaâs sincere attempt to move away from Islamist Oil. Unfortunately, Latin America is having a Communist Revival, and like all things in life, people reveal their true prejudice when times are good and when the money flows. Latin oil producing nations are making $$$, and suddenly we must all put up with Cavez and his farts, as well as the âreconquistasâ from oil-rich Mexico. Annoying. But for all you geeks who think Conservation will solve everything, energy drives economies. You donât want to believe it, and try to make it a thing of gluttony⦠All I can say is there is a reason why you people donât lead economies.
Thought this was a trading forum? Banning SUV's is like saying lets ban red meat, cigarettes, or ice cream and cake. What about GM and Ford? All those jobs. What a weenie thing to say. People in France and Italy drive cars that can fit in your back pocket, yet they pay US$7.00 for gas. Do you really think the soccer moms are responsible for $70 oil? It has liittle to do with consumption today. More like whats going on in South America ( Venezuela), Africa (Nigeria), Central America (Bolivia). All on top of Iran. Actually, we will never go to war with Iran for 1 reason. The day they have a nuke, is the day that Israel takes them out - the U.S. knows that, and so does the U.N. and Iran. It will be over by the time you wake up one Sunday morn. We'll read about it on Monday as part of history. Bush should limit his flying time to conserve gas?? What happened to the discussions about expanding volatility and fibonacci retracements, instead of venting political crap?? Tiring of these threads . . .
