If you can't solve a problem 100%, you shouldn't do anything at all.

More like: If you can't put together a practical solution that would solve anything then you should stop bitching about it endlessly.

If you would like to present a practical and detailed solution, I will certainly listen and entertain it. Who knows? You might come up with something others have not and change my perspective!

I think a practical solution is to ban ar15s. Yes, old ones will remain in the public, but it will start to reduce the supply overtime. Guns do get destroyed and damaged. It will on the margin get tougher for the wrong people to get guns.

Enact tougher laws about gun ownership. If a gun is registered to you, you are responsible for anyone who receives a bullet from it.

There are many common sense ideas, I’m sure you would agree to. You are a rational person.

Solve the problem one step at a time.

  5. We should start by having strict “Gun Free Zones”. That will scare all the bad guys away.
We keep making the gun free zones bigger until the bad guys all leave the country or give up their guns.

Anything else you need me to solve?

I agree on the gun registered to you, your responsible clause. That should encourage responsible storage.

But I'll tell you, to expect a noticeable reduction in guns during our lifetime without any confiscation action is just not going to happen. There are just too many weapons on the street, period. Additionally, 3D printing weapons is getting more and more advanced.

Nonsense. According to the CDC, 80% of gun homicides are gang related. And, according to the FBI, more people are killed each year with hammers and clubs than rifles. Your "practical solution" isn't practical or a solution. You've been indoctrinated.

Why do they use an ar-15 for a mass shooting? Wouldn’t it be easier to get a rifle?

    Serious question.

    Capacity and ease of use.

Look, there's no doubt that an AR15 is a more dangerous weapon than a bolt action to multiple targets. To one target, the point is moot as both can kill equally - I'd argue the bolt action is actually a better weapon to assassinate someone. But for school shootings or other mass casualty events, the AR platform, hands down.

The question is how to get rid of them - and the answer is, you can't. There are too many. Instead, focus on getting the bad guys ahead of time. Focus on making schools safer with veterans or police. Focus on mental health of students. Focus on smart closures to blatant gun loopholes. No one on this board is a bigger supporter of gun use than me, yet I will absolutely acknowledge many things that can and should be done. But when liberals start the conversation with "we need to ban xxxxx" then we don't get anywhere, because gun advocates like myself hear "we need to ban" and then everything else is lost.

The only way this discussion ever gets both sides to the table is through honest dialogue that is non-confrontational and results driven, not narrative driven. So far, you are one of the only folks on this board interested in an honest discussion on the topic.

Not sure what you mean by "wouldn’t it be easier to get a rifle" but ANY semi-automatic weapon can be used in a mass shooting. The Ruger Mini-14 (in the pic above) would be just as effective as the demonized AR-15. The VA Tech shooter killed 32 and wounded 17 with two semi-automatic handguns. If we let AR-15s be banned, next it's all semi-automatic weapons.

Personally, I'm not willing to give an inch because the "reporting" has been propaganda to support leftist straw men: blaming the NRA, demonizing inanimate objects and disarming law abiding citizens -- while turning a blind eye to real issues like gang violence, psychotropic drugs, and cultural rot.
