I believe many trade like this whether long term or one minute bars, just not advertised much. The newer trader don't care much for charting as you have to study patterns much more than colorful indicators which has it's time and place. People are funny, they spend more time planning a vacation then how to trade the markets.
IMO Trendlines work in hindsight just like Fibonacci or Elliott wave. Only computers will be able to research it without emotions. I am sure there is software out there. You just have to define the rules and let it run through the history. Thinking about it, what about the ZigZag indicator?
I guess you mean me Volker? And yes there are trends - big ones. Bigger and longer than anyone would expect. Just take a look at the US stocks SPY, DIA QQQ... what a run for close to 12 years...
