Yep... it still is a pandemic of the unvaccinated.

This article walks through the correct way to look at the math -- even when the vaccinated outnumber the unvaccinated in a hospital in a highly vaccinated country.

Vaccinated hospital patients outpace the unvaccinated, but it doesn't mean the shots don't work: experts
    https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/vaccinat...t-mean-the-shots-don-t-work-experts-1.5730793

CALGARY - Numbers showing the majority of Alberta's COVID-19 hospital admissions are in vaccinated individuals don't tell the entire story, regardless of what some conspiracy theorists believe.

Albertans with at least one shot took over more hospital beds than those without this week.

But the raw numbers are incomplete, and a dive into the data shows being vaccinated may be more important now than ever before.

As of Thursday, 217 unvaccinated Albertans were in hospital with COVID-19, compared to 282 patients with at least one shot.

But almost 90 per cent of the province has one dose, which means the "rate per 100,000 people" is a more telling metric to measure admissions.

By that standard, about 24 unvaccinated people per 100,000 are in an Alberta hospital.

That rate drops to fewer than eight after just one shot.

"You can reduce your risk of an unpleasant, severe or deadly illness by at least three-quarters and up to 90 per cent if you get vaccinated," Dr. Lynora Saxinger told CTV News.

But the vaccines aren't completely flawless.

More than other variants, Omicron can still infect immunized populations.

That's where severity comes into play.

"The fact that (Omicron) is rip-roaring through the population means that it might not be reasonable to expect that people will not get infected with it, but the severity really does count an awful lot in your life experience and also in the effect on the healthcare system," Saxinger said. "Although these vaccines are a little bit leaky in terms of preventing transmission, they do reduce it. People who have been vaccinated carry less virus for a shorter time and transmit less.

"They are not perfect, but unfortunately we don't have the option of perfect."

Unvaccinated ICU patients with COVID-19 far outnumber those who are vaccinated.

The former tallied 47 in Alberta Thursday. The latter, 18.

The numbers are just as imbalanced using proper metrics: 5.2 unvaccinated people per 100,000 are in the ICU. That rate drops to 0.4 with two doses.

Yep.... it continues to be a Pandemic of the Unvaccinated

Unvaccinated people 12 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19: B.C. Health Ministry
    https://vancouverisland.ctvnews.ca/...d-with-covid-19-b-c-health-ministry-1.5740523

Health officials continue to urge British Columbians to get vaccinated against COVID-19, with the latest modelling data providing details on hospitalization rates in the province.

Speaking at a live briefing Friday, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said people who are unvaccinated are 12 times more likely to require hospitalization due to COVID-19 compared to people who are vaccinated in the same age group.

The risks go up when looking at ICU rates and COVID-19-related deaths.

Health officials estimate that unvaccinated people are 27 times more likely to require intensive care, and 40 times more at risk of death from COVID-19.

Every one of my siblings works in the medical field from South Dakota, Illinois to Kentucky. They all have had to say almost the exact same thing to people going to the hospital for emergency care due to the fact that the hospital no longer has no beds and not enough medical personnel.

In fact, all of their hospitals just a few weeks ago were putting patients in the hallway regardless if you had a broken leg, shattered arm, gunshot wound, stroke, unconscious, can't breathe, or whatever...in the same hallway with patients severely ill with Covid.

    Pure madness

Who wants to be around these depressed plague rats.

COVID anti-vaxxers more prone to depression, study shows
    https://www.newsnationnow.com/healt...vaxxers-more-prone-to-depression-study-shows/

Anti-vaxxers who believe misinformation about the coronavirus vaccine are more likely to suffer from depression than those who trust the vaccine developers, a new study reveals.

A team from Massachusetts General Hospital examined more than 15,000 people and found that people who endorse misleading vaccine-related theories are more prone to mental health problems than their counterparts.

“These findings suggest another potential benefit of public health efforts to address depressive symptoms, namely reducing susceptibility to misinformation,” researchers write in the journal JAMA Network Open.

Participants with moderate to severe depressive symptoms were more than twice as likely to endorse at least one of four false statements presented to them about the COVID vaccine. Moreover, they were also less likely to be vaccinated. Researchers believe the phenomenon could be the result of a loss of trust.

Estimates show that one in four adults in the United States have been affected by depression during the pandemic. Studies show this could also put them at greater risk of contracting COVID-19. Individuals with depression may also exhibit less optimistic beliefs, which could lead them to underestimate the potential benefit of vaccination.

“Notably, mood disorders have been associated with worse COVID-19 outcomes among hospitalized patients,” researchers write in their report.

    Misinformation getting worse during COVID
The team analyzed responses from two waves of an online survey for adults across the U.S. from May to July of 2021.

“While this study design cannot address causation, the association between depression and spread and impact of misinformation merits further investigation,” the study authors said.

The potential for misinformation to impact public health behavior is a topic that goes back well before the current pandemic. However, the consequences are becoming even more apparent now. Vaccine misinformation can hinder efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus by minimizing a person’s perception of their risk for infection. It can also discourage them from wearing masks, practicing social distancing and make them less likely to get the COVID vaccine.

“In the context of political misinformation, both anger and anxiety are associated with promoting beliefs in certain types of false stories,” the study authors continued.

Anti-vaxxers often focus on the negative
Researchers assessed vaccine-related misinformation using four specific statements.

“We selected these statements based on misinformation prevalent on social media platforms in spring 2021,” the team adds.

These statements included “The COVID-19 vaccines will alter people’s DNA,” “The COVID-19 vaccines contain microchips that could track people,” “The COVID-19 vaccines contain the lung tissue of aborted fetuses” and “The COVID-19 vaccines can cause infertility, making it more difficult to get pregnant.”

At the conclusion of the experiment, scientists told respondents which items were not true, to ensure that the survey itself did not spread misinformation.

“We found that presence of moderate or greater depressive symptoms was associated with greater likelihood of endorsing misinformation about vaccines,” study author Dr. Roy Perlis reports, “an association that persisted with adjustment for sociodemographic features as well as self-reported ideology and political party affiliation.”

Individuals with major depressive symptoms often exhibit a more pronounced “negativity bias,” where bad thoughts receive greater focus, Perlis explains. Therefore, depression could facilitate the uptake of misinformation at an individual level.

“Alternatively, it is possible that the association between depression and misinformation could be mediated by change in trust,” Perlis says. “Individuals with depression could exhibit less willingness to trust institutions attempting to combat misinformation, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or greater willingness to trust other institutions that distribute misinformation.”

“As anticipated, we also found that individuals who embraced health misinformation were less likely to be vaccinated or be willing to get the vaccine if available,” the researchers conclude. “As such, individuals already burdened with depression may be at a higher risk of COVID-19.”

Unvaccinated seniors 49 times more likely to be hospitalized than those with boosters – CDC
Figures show benefit of Covid vaccines and boosters to reduce hospital risk as agency says: ‘Get vaccinated as soon as possible’
    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/jan/21/cdc-covid-vaccine-hospitals-americans

New data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has revealed that unvaccinated adults infected with Covid-19 who are 65 and older are 49 times more likely to need hospitalization compared to those who have received third shots or booster doses.

The CDC also found that in December, unvaccinated adults in that same age group experienced a rate of Covid-related hospitalization 17 times higher than those who are fully vaccinated. This group includes people who received two doses of an mRNA vaccine or one single-dose vaccine, but have not necessarily been boosted.

For unvaccinated adults between 50 and 64, they are 44 times more likely to require hospitalization compared with those who are fully vaccinated and boosted.

In that same age group, unvaccinated adults were also 17 times more likely to experience Covid-related hospitalization.

According to the CDC, adults who are 65 and older and have received both doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine showed a 94% reduced risk of Covid-related hospitalizations.

Unvaccinated adults aged 18 to 49 are 12 times more likely to be hospitalized, whereas unvaccinated adolescents who are 12 to 17 are nine times more likely to be hospitalized compared with their fully immunized counterparts.

“Getting very sick means that older adults with Covid-19 might need hospitalization, intensive care, or a ventilator to help them breathe, or they might even die. The risk increases for people in their 50s and increases in 60s, 70s, and 80s. People 85 and older are the most likely to get very sick,” the CDC said on its website.

“Get vaccinated as soon as possible,” the agency added.

Last Friday, international regulators at the International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities published a report that reaffirmed the importance of obtaining a booster dose.

“Reviewing data on the impact of Omicron, the participants concluded that current vaccines offer less protection against infection and mild disease caused by this variant. However, vaccination continues to offer considerable protection from hospitalisation and severe Covid-19 with Omicron, especially after a booster dose,” the regulators said.

“It is becoming increasingly clear that a booster dose is needed to extend vaccine protection,” they added.

Nevertheless, the regulators also acknowledged that “the administration of multiple booster doses at short intervals is not a sustainable approach in the longer term,” adding: “There is a need to develop a long-term strategy on the types of vaccines needed to manage Covid in the future.”

According to Johns Hopkins data, the US has recorded more than 69m cases as well as over 860,000 deaths since the pandemic began. Approximately 63% of Americans have been fully vaccinated.

Earlier this week, the US’s top medical adviser Anthony Fauci said that there were five stages of the pandemic and that the world is still currently in the first phase, “where the whole world is really very negatively impacted as we are right now”.

The following four phases are deceleration, control, elimination and eradication. “If you look at the history of infectious diseases, we’ve only eradicated one infectious disease in man, and that’s smallpox. That’s not going to happen with this virus,” Fauci said in reference to Covid-19.
