I don't know that your assertion of "MOST are rich because they inherited" is correct.... some are rich because their parents were rich... and THAT'S BECAUSE THE PARENTS [or grandparents, or great-grandparents... SOMEBODY in the freakin' family] DID SOMETHING TO GET RICH. I know LOTS of fairly rich people... none of whom inherited wealth, but made their own. In fact, I know only one person who inherited wealth... and her father came to the US as a poor immigrant, spoke no English at the time.. and did a LOT to become wealthty. There is absolutely no "fairness" in a political plan to redistribute wealth. America is not the United Socialist States of America (at least not yet).
You guys are living in fantasy land. The majority of people, especially those with families, are living paycheck-to-paycheck just trying to "make it" from one month to the next. For them, it's not about a struggle to get rich, but a struggle to provide basic necessities of life. I don't comprehend how you can say that the guy who is sitting on a few million in passive investments & paying the minimal long-term capital gains tax is the "productive part of society" whereas the guy busting his ass all day long in a factory and still struggling to get by is the "leech" as you say...
Gnome for president! We need a Gnome in the White House. Unfortunately, common-sense talk of an individual's wealth being dependent upon the effort put forth will not fly. The media would shoot the Gnome down as if in a witch hunt. Witch! Witch! Hissssssssss. Ambitionless people seem to be quite happy with their cigs, beer, TV, mediocre job, but still find time to hate their job's business owner that makes 5 times as much but works 10 times harder to achieve such ''huge'' wealth. The sheep don't understand that taxes truly are taxing, upon the economy itself, therefore themselves. Have you noticed that you never hear the word 'ambition' anymore except in a negative sentence? Never hear the word 'lazy' anymore, nor worthless, useless. I guess most everyone fits in now.
FTR, I gotta agree with gnome 100% here. While life isn't "fair", nobody ever said it was mean't to be (take a good hard look at the world, hello!), nor were any gaurantees given to anyone coming out of the womb of fiscal security. Opportunties are not the same, edcuation is not equal, people do not get the same treatment in this country. Nevertheless the fundamental concept of "opportunity" exists for everyone who has the where-with-all and ability to take advantage of it and turn it to their ends ... and it is dependent upon the individual to do so, regardless of the situation that they come from, or the one that they might find themselves in today. Taking from the haves to give to the have-nots will only fill their bellies for that one time ... and they will be coming back with their hands out looking for the next dolop of gruel soon enough. Not good ...
I'd serve on the platform of: 1. The Federal Bureaucracy is mostly elitist, self-serving liars and thieves.. should be kicked in the balls by every American citizen, then run out of town on a rail. 2. The Federal Reserve is a cancer... should be abolished. 3. Deficit spending is not allowed. Violators will be castrated. And when it comes to social support, I like what the Mormons do. (Not one myself, just worked in an office full of them years ago.) That is... if you need financial help, they will help you pay your bills and feed your family. In exchange, you will continue to look for employment and also help the church out as best you can... like paint a house, or mow lawns, or whatever needs done. If you are able but refuse to lend a hand, then you don't receive financial aid. Makes a lot of sense to me. How long do you think I'd last? (Shoot, how long do you think I'd LIVE?)
100% correct. Liberals just don't get this fact. Liberal politicians do get it but they know the people who vote for them love hearing this nonsense. They eat it up. Barack Obama is going to CHANGE the world. LOL.
Maybe this is easy for me to see because I grew up inner-city poor, and now I have to deal with wealthy people. It's very simple, it used to be called royalty. Now we fool people with "Democracy" and "choice." A question for you. How many people in congress or on the boards of the companies in the S&P 500 were not born very well off? How many earned their jobs and how many are there because of who they or their families know? This is nothing new. There is absolutely no "fairness" in much of life. You have nothing to fear from politicians redistributing wealth. The only real distribution of wealth occurs in War. This is just a political scare tactic that works so well that it is used in every country that has elections. Again, I support no politics here.
I have LOTS to fear from politicians distributing MY wealth. I EARNED IT... they're not entitled to confiscate and redistribute my efforts to win election. There are MILLIONS more of Americans who could have become rich had they made the effort... it's never been a requirement to be born with a silver spoon. You want to be rich like somebody you know? Then get out of your seat and do something that if successful could make you rich. No American has ever been "entitled" to more than the opportunity.
A FEAR tactic that works very well, yes. But what I am saying is they will not raise the highest tax bracket no matter what is said to get elected. Opportunities are becoming fewer and far between in our great country. You did not answer my question.
I don't know "how many Congressman or CEO's had a favored start in life". Maybe most of them. So what... there are hundreds of times more rich people than just those. Obama won't raise taxes? Why not? He wants to spend more money, doesn't he? "Raising taxes on the rich for social programs" plays well with the hoi polloi, doesn't it? Clinton raised taxes.
