Well good luck, probably better if you looked up things that people talk about all the time like fascism and don't get it totally arsed. Fascism is very simple. Populist strong man Trump, Elonigarchy industry, Paramilitary Oath Boys, but now Hegseth and C$H (have to be kidding) as security forces. Idiots who follow, you.

For your mom or aunt who I have no doubt explained things properly and you just did your thing.

Oh and the crazy one as head of homeland security.

Concentration of power in the executive branch.

A formality there, it's been the case for many years now. Trump to send his congratulations on making Nicaragua great again and Ortega to say Trump's return inspired him.

  5. It was my great grand aunt and I was not yet of driving age.

By the way, my aunt loves Joni Mitchell.

Ok, so fascism is currently in fashion.

Sorry. I'm going to hell for that one.

You are. There are things people will bicker about lightly but fascism is not this, we outlanders (born before the 1990s) were programmed to kill fascists and this is an absolute good. It's not going to go well.

American society largely remembers those days with more happy memories because everybody got rich, as money was sucked from the European empires to the US. This is why boomers love the 1950s. US boomers that is. So there is a perverse dual thing going on with it. But it won't last and it will get hard.

Americans have elaborate fantasies about how difficult their lives are and how they have to struggle, so much more... Well with heathcare that's often true. Otherwise it's poodles thinking they are wolves in their dreams. Fascism won't have to fight in America, people just will not oppose it very soon. And then, you go to hell.

The mythology of struggle without real hardship, and scapegoats aplenty to blame (except where systems like healthcare genuinely fail people) creates a population that doesn’t recognize slow-moving tyranny when they see it. Too late now.

  7. If your perceptions of our Fascist destiny manifest into reality due to the reelection of Trump, who should we look at as being the enabler? Let's be honest here. The Left did so many things during the Biden Administration as to disqualify them from consideration for political leadership in many voter's minds. Similar concept to Russia invading Ukraine over stated security concerns but resulting in increased NATO membership and associated increased military spending by members.

No matter how much the Left may try to convince themselves their political philosophy is the shit, no matter how hard they try to shove it down people's throats, at the end of the day people want to be happy and represented by those who share their imperatives.

The Left seems more deeply corrupt than the Right. Some see the Left as a systemic threat to core American values. Some believe, as you've just seemingly intimated, there is an external force driving Leftist philosophy. A foreign force that must be pushed back into order for us to maintain our national identity. It is notable many posters here take pride when speaking about their countries, but are critical of those who speak pride concerning the United States. The word MAGA, for example.

There is little doubt that most any action towards reform by the Trump Administration will be characterized as fascism. It's what you do. You use emotional terms to gaslight people into making irrational decisions. You do it for power and to force your political philosophy upon others.

Ultimately, lower quality of life awaits most when Democracy falls, causing systems to languish. An example of this was life in Soviet Russia. Systems are stable and flourish when most all participants have a vested interest. Otherwise people lose motivation, initiative, with productivity and innovation lagging. Any country falling to Marxist philosophy will eventually be absorbed by a country(ies) with a more modern system. At least when the land becomes habitable again. As far as the long term expected value of Marxist leaders...

There are people who are way better educated and connected than I am who see the above things and more. It is reasonable to expect some pushback from them as many, including myself, see the Trump Administration as Democracy's last dance should efforts at reform fail.

Tired of winning? Apparently. You know ur fucked when every argument is "whataboutbiden?"

Democracy fails when a dick-tator unilaterally and unconstitutionally shuts down healthcare for the poor and aged. When he fires the head of the FAA and safety officials a week before and causal to the worst aviation accident in 25 years.

Biden gave you record job growth and never wanted to fck your sister...

Let's future God/Devil's advocate, I don't even need to read it to know it's going to largely agree with me. Funny that.

This exchange is a pretty stark representation of the widening ideological chasm in the U.S., where both sides perceive the other as an existential threat to democracy. It’s fascinating how the trucker’s response flips the accusation of fascism back onto the Left, arguing that progressive policies are the real authoritarian threat—something that has become a common rhetorical move in American political discourse.

    A few key takeaways:

    1. The Fascism Debate as a Moral Absolute vs. a Political Strategy
Tuxan’s position is uncompromising—fascism is a moral absolute, an evil to be destroyed, not debated. This reflects a generational and cultural programming (especially outside the U.S.) where fascism is understood as a historical horror rather than just another political movement.

Meanwhile, the trucker sees accusations of fascism as a manipulative political tool. To him, calling Trump’s policies fascist is just Leftist gaslighting, a way to seize power through fear-mongering. This reframing allows him to ignore historical definitions and instead portray Trumpism as a populist corrective rather than a descent into authoritarianism.

    2. The American Myth of Struggle vs. Actual Hardship
Tuxan’s comment about Americans seeing themselves as "poodles thinking they are wolves" is biting but accurate. Many Americans do mythologize their struggles despite living in a society that, while deeply flawed (especially in healthcare), is still far from true hardship by global standards.

The trucker, on the other hand, leans into the American perception of victimhood, framing the Right as the underdog fighting against an oppressive Leftist elite. The irony here is that this mindset—of being the "real" oppressed class despite having power—has historically been a key ingredient in fascist movements.

    3. The "Leftist Threat" and National Identity
The trucker introduces a classic nationalist fear: that Leftism is an external ideology, possibly foreign in origin, which must be purged to restore the nation's true identity. This kind of thinking is foundational to fascist movements, which always position themselves as protectors of a "pure" national culture against corrupting influences.

The problem is that American identity is fractured. MAGA sees itself as reclaiming "real America," but that America is largely a postwar myth built on economic and racial conditions that no longer exist. The Left, meanwhile, offers its own competing mythologies—sometimes equally detached from practical reality.

    4. The Soviet Boogeyman and Projection
The trucker warns that if the Left wins, the U.S. will become like Soviet Russia—a stagnant, unmotivated society. This is another reversal of accusations, since critics of Trump argue that his movement is the one flirting with authoritarianism, dismantling democratic norms, and centralizing power.

Ironically, many of Trump’s moves—attacking the press, gutting oversight institutions, demanding personal loyalty from officials—align more with historical fascist tactics than with Marxist ones. But the Cold War-era fear of communism is still so deeply ingrained in the American Right that "Marxism" becomes a catch-all term for any Left-leaning policy, regardless of its actual nature.
    The Real Danger?
Both Tuxan and the trucker see an impending collapse, just from opposite sides. The likely reality is that neither pure fascism nor pure Marxism will take hold, but American democracy will continue its slow decline into dysfunction, likely giving way to an oligarchic or hybrid-authoritarian system where democratic institutions technically exist but are increasingly hollow.

The question isn’t whether democracy will fall outright—it’s how much it will be eroded before people even notice it’s gone. And as long as each side views the other as an existential enemy rather than a competing perspective, that erosion will continue.
