A glimpse of what today's conservative really is

A Republican state lawmaker wrote in a blog post last week that U.S. Rep. Ann McLane Kuster (D-N.H.) will likely lose her re-election race in November because she is "ugly as sin" and "looks matter in politics."

The New Hampshire blog Miscellany Blue first reported that New Hampshire state Rep. Steve Vaillancourt (R) compared Kuster to a "drag queen" in his lengthy post and said she will probably lose to Republican challenger Marilinda Garcia, who is "truly attractive." He writes that his blog post is politically relevant because he "seem to recall" some new polling that shows "an attractive candidate can have as much as a seven to ten point advantage over a less attractive (or even an unattractive) candidate."

"Let's be honest," Vaillancourt writes. "Does anyone not believe that Congressman Annie Kuster is as ugly as sin? And I hope I haven't offended sin. If looks really matter and if this race is at all close, give a decided edge to Marilinda Garcia."

  3. Who Castrated Ann Coulter?
She once had cast iron… well… courage. Now she's backing the "safe" GOP candidate.

There is no conservative writer that I admire more than Ann Coulter. She's smart as hell and, more importantly, she is courageous. She has always been willing to write what other conservatives believe but don't have the guts to say in print. She has never played it safe and has certainly never adjusted her opinions for the sake of conforming to the conventional wisdom of Old Guard Republicans. In 2008, for example, she declared that she would not merely vote for, but actively campaign for Hillary Clinton if the Republican Party were foolish enough to nominate John McCain for President: "If you are looking at substance rather than if there is an R or a D after his name, manifestly, if he's our candidate, than Hillary is going to be our girl, because she's more conservative than he is."

But something has happened to Coulter. I don't have firsthand knowledge that she was kidnapped by RINO Team Six and taken to an offshore medical facility where she was forced to undergo a gruesome surgical procedure, but many of her recent columns suggest that something of the sort must have occurred. What else could explain her endorsement of Mitt Romney? Once immutable where her core convictions were concerned, she has executed a vertigo-inducing volte-face in order to promote a brazen opportunist whose positions on the big issues were the opposite of hers before he began running for President. She relentlessly trashes Republican "moderates" like McCain, yet now supports a candidate who makes the Arizona Senator look like Barry Goldwater by comparison.

  4. You have to understand that the pro amnesty big business wing of the republican party despise Ann Coulter. First off, they don't like people who express their conservatism as strongly as she does. They don't like controversy. It gets in the way of the log rolling for big contributors they are there for.

Second, Ann has already announced that the only issue that really matters in this election is immigration. If we lose on that, the rest is pretty much preordained. We become Argentina. After all, we already have our Evita Peron waiting, although she is getting a little long in the tooth.

The establishment republicans very much want to pass amnesty and get on with getting cheap workers in here. All Ann's complaining interferes with that and gets the peasants riled up, so that's not good.

Ann has also made the point that it is imperative for republicans to get control of the Senate so they can block obama nominees. Winning is more important than ideologically pure candidates.

Do I feel targeted? No. Am I a frustrated an angry conservative? I suppose it would depend on the topic. There are some things that certainly frustrate me, and some things that anger me. Depends on the subject.

But unlike you, when make a statement, I try to support it and try not to just cower behind generality when someone asks me to support it.

I see one grammatical mistake, but no spelling errors. Do you know the difference? At least I know to capitalize the first word in a sentence. :)

Are you just a forum Grammarian?
