does a surgeon take a drink to take the edge off? NO! i don't understand why you would want to dull the senses. Who drinks to take the 'edge' off? Name one profession that benefits?
I think I read somewhere that Subway's top sandwich artists do some of their finest work after they get a buzz on.
You would be surprised...Second leading ACCIDENTAL cause of death in america is doctor error. again everyone this is not brain surgery it is trading...If a drink helps you, then by all means do it...I use caffeine G
You are comparing apples and oranges here. Surgeon in a life saving capacity or trader who profits off the buying and selling of others. Cmon now, use your brain And also, who cares about other professions. I am talking about someone who works for themselves (ie an independent trader). I am my own boss and have no one to answer to other than myself. I guarentee that there are many people in the working world who would actually be more productive with 1 solitary drink in them but of course the consequences are too great for this to happen. I am looking for ways to increases my trading performance (albeit maybe unnaturally) and it seems like most everyone else here is looking for excuses to the contrary.
BTW I am 6'3 and 200 lbs so one drink to me will not have the same effect as it will have on someone who is 5'5 150. Its all relative.
Why are you trying to justify it so hard? I think that if you are really sure that the experiment is being done for the right reasons, you should feel no need to argue with these petty minds who can't comprehend your logic. Drink to improve your trading, fine - drink to improve your trading AND get support from other trading? Get the fuck out of here! I have nothing against it. I have unconventional views on everything and if you really can be helped by drinking while trading and can hold the discipline to not let it spin out of control or to substitute alcohol for natural feelings of anxiety in other areas of your life than fine. But why are you arguing about it so intently? I don't know you and my job is not to try to assume that I do, but I suspect that something in your subconscious - some sort of inner voice, what most people might call "god" - is telling you that any short term benefits you and your account gain from this experiment will be negated, and then some, by the potential long term benefits of this. If you didn't feel that doubt on some level you wouldn't be so pressed to get others to agree with you on this issue. Do what you must. You'll make your own decisions and learn from the consequences. But introspect into your motivations for being agreed with and see if there's something there you haven't yet had the insight or courage to face; maybe once you do, you'll find a more natural solution to your trading problems in the first place.
No, you're right. Perhaps I am trying to get my point across too strongly and for really no gain. Good post.
I haven't read this whole thread so I don't know if someone's said this already but.... It's entirely possible that the one shot in the morning will remove the intangibles that are earning you $100k/yr trading. Trading successfully is often a delicate balancing act in my opinion and your diganosis and your "medication" could both turn out to be total horseshit and wind up knocking you out of the game.
