A couple questions for the remaining "birthers"

Discussion in 'Politics' started by Hello, Apr 28, 2011.

  1. You missed the point entirely. This isn't about Obama's grades, it's about the Obama administration preaching "openness" and "tranparency" and then being less open and less transparent than the previous administration.

"The only people who don't want to disclose the truth are people with something to hide." That's what Obama said on August 21, 2010. But the Obama administration has denied more FOIA requests than Bush (whom Obama called the most secretive President in history). When FOIA denials happened under the Bush administration, everybody screamed (as they should have); but when Obama does it, it's suddenly okay. It was wrong when Bush did it and it's wrong when Obama does it.

When you preach openness and transparency, you should be open and transparent.

  6. Ricter

    Ricter

That's what Power has been saying lately (maybe it goes way back) to justify snooping everywhere.

Accuse someone of witchcraft, they don't respond, therefore they are hiding something, and it's probably at least some form or degree of witchcraft or they wouldn't be silent about the accusation.

Police cameras in every home, police software on every computer! If you're not doing anything wrong then you have nothing to hide.

Sad to see the president of the USA make such a statement, BUT before I get too judgemental I should probably understand what context you pulled that statement out of... let's see....

Ahh yes, nothing to do with birtherism. Campaign finance.

  7. You took one sentence out of an entire post and reached an incorrect conclusion. Please read the rest of the post and you'll see the larger point.

The rest of my previous Post:

"My Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government." - President Barack Obama, January 2008

    Two years later… March 2010.

"The Democratic administration of Barack Obama, who denounced his predecessor, George W. Bush, as the most secretive in history, is now denying more Freedom of Information Act requests than the Republican did."

I have no problem with Obama being secretive, but he shouldn't be preaching opennes and transparency. And, no, I'm not talking about where he was born or his college transcripts. I'm talking about his politics which are not "open" and "transparent."

    ------------------------------------
WASHINGTON (AP) – Federal agencies haven’t lived up to President Barack Obama’s promise of a more open government, increasing their use of legal exemptions to keep records secret during his first year in office.

An Associated Press review of Freedom of Information Act reports filed by 17 major agencies found that the use of nearly every one of the law’s nine exemptions to withhold information from the public rose in fiscal year 2009, which ended last October.

    -----------------

Even the unions are complaining about his lack of transparency.

Weeks after President Obama took office, John Gage, the head of the largest union for federal workers in the country, gave a speech hailing the new administration as a champion for “transparency, accountability and good government.”

But in a sharply worded federal lawsuit filed last week, that same union, the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), accused the Obama administration of keeping important government records secret.

    -------------------

Business Wire, owned by Warrent Buffet's company reported the following:

“President Obama promised the most transparent administration in history, and now his administration is proposing the secret blacklisting of government contractors without due process,” ASBL President Lloyd Chapman said. “This legislation opens the door to unparalleled opportunity for fraud and abuse, and without question will be used to threaten and intimidate small businesses that take issue with DoD’s small business contracting practices.”

Obama administration keeps new policy on Miranda secret

The Justice Department has a new policy for terrorism interrogations -- but officials won't publicly release it

"Since May, though, there has been virtually no public talk about a legislative push from congressional leaders or the administration. Instead, there is the new DOJ guidance, which is being kept secret."

    -----------------------------------------

Obama admistration made a major policy shift on foreign recruitment of child soldiers without consulting congress -- via secret memo, that fortunately, got leaked.

    -------------------------

Regarding the healthcare bill, Obama said: "We will work on this process publicly. It'll be on C-SPAN. It'll be streaming on the Internet," he said. He reiterated this on eight seperate occasions. He also promised to post the entire bill on line for everyone to see before a final vote was taken -- never happened.

He promised a "public process," and yet it was all done behind closed doors with less than 4 hours of televised debate and no final bill made public for the taxpayers to see .

    -------------------------

If Obama wants to be secretive, that's fine. He's the President and he can do what he wants. But lecturing everyone about "openness and transparency" is nonsense.
