Really? 1. The High Cost of Childcare 2. Stagnant Wages Combined With Ever-Increasing Cost of Living 3. Public Education Is Struggling, and Private Schools Are Unaffordable 4. Astronomical College Tuition 5. The High Cost of Healthcare 6. The Decline of Organized Labor 7. U.S. Still Lags Behind inPaid Maternity Leave 8. Stagnant Minimum Wage 9. Outsourcing and the Loss of American Manufacturing Jobs I do not notice a single point, listed, on any Democratic agenda. And I believe this is the problem the US and Americans are really struggling with, either side constantly sees a Democratic or Republican sniper hiding behind each bush and tree where there is none. Instead of tackling problems together the blame game is in full swing. Sad, because the innovative spirit of Americans would make for much greater efficiencies and advances without the political blame game going on. Please indicate if this thread is going down the typical TsingTao/Martinghoul route (aka politicising each and every issue and thread on this site) then I am happy to leave you political heavyweights to it.
Let's start with Point 9. Support for NAFTA and all the other trade agreements that outsourced manufacturing jobs were part of the Democratic National Platform. Clinton woos Republicans to secure Nafta vote Conservatives (as opposed to Republicans) did not support NAFTA and other trade agreements. Do I really need to pull out the previous Democratic national platforms and walk through it point by point .... for something that is so blindingly obvious. To be fair, both Democrats and Republicans supported policies that lead to most of the items above. Trying to portray the items as results of conservative policy is simply untrue.
Why did you post an Alternet article that portrays America as a terrible place to raise children? If this is true then why are people from all over the world (including Europe) trying to get to America to raise their children?
I didn't bother reading the article. It no doubt points out some obvious points. The real problem to me is that responsible people now shy away from having children, in part due to the financial burden. For plenty of men, the screwed up legal system and excessive power now afforded women in divorces is another reason. Meanwhile, the least responsible people, the Obama voters, churn out kids like kellogs does cornflakes. WTF do they care, rich white taxpayers will cover the cost. Obama and the republican elites want to compound the problem by bringing half of latin america here, the half that is illiterate and has huge families.
