Snarky, how can you be so daft? We must not drill for oil on federal lands to help the American people out of poverty, because to do so will kill the Spotted Owl! Half the country must die a starving death in poverty to save the fucking spotted owl! You are a cruel and unusual person to not understand this point! After all, they need to be able to make enough money to buy clothes from The Gap, which is made with synthetics generated from crude oil, which cannot be had if we save the spotted owl! So we must kill the spotted owl! You communist! Merry X-Mas!
These are the impossible choices we must make when in ecological overshoot. Either one is cumulatively disastrous.
Lol. You guys are silly. Note Mr. Mercor only gave a snippet of how those 6.0 million were characterized. Want a job yes but not actively looking for a job or unavailable to take a job. It’s unbelievable how the right wingers approach data with so much bias and priors to try to force lies and incomplete information because they have no basis for their beliefs and understanding of how the world actually works. The true and complete data:
Are you speaking about Keystone? And how much oil would that have produced a day? Keep in mind US consumes about 20 million barrels a day.
It’s really not. Domestic production is down from the pandemic when oil prices were driven low. A lot of the drop off is due to price. It’s also hard to restart a well. What needs to be understood is that oil producers don’t use all of the proven wells they have access to and a lot of this talk about opening up public lands won’t necessarily prove out in terms of production. Producers have plenty of land and proven wells on public lands. We should not shrink away from demanding they be worked before opening up more.
What I meant, in reply to Overnight, is that using FF for energy and clothing degrades the environment (loss of the Spotted Owl is merely an instance of all faunal and floral drawdown; and there is ocean plasticization), but if we stop it to save the environment we freeze. Either choice is catastrophic at our current population.
