Longshot: "what would you think of *me* if i could have prevented 9/11 but i chose not to act?" A perfectly valid question. Let's expand this a little. Suppose longshot was on one of the planes that got hijacked. Let's make it the 2nd plane. The people realize what is going to happen and rush the cockpit. They take out all the terrorists but one. One terrorist is left standing, but he pulls a gun and holds the people back. Unknown to the terrorist, longshot is standing behind him with access to a a fire extinguisher that he can bash the terrorist over the head with. He reaches for the fire extinguisher, raises it above his head, and at the last moment, decides...NAAAAAH... I dont want to get involved.. and instead jumps out the airplane and throws his parachute. The plane smashes into the building killing everyone on board and thousands in the building. Is longshot negligent? What if you dont KNOW what longshots infamous "frame of reference" is? Is he not negligent now? If god was in the same position, and ALSO decides to leave, is he negligent? The answers here are so incredibly obvious to any reasonable person. But somehow im sure Doubter will come up with some creative excuse as to why longshot *IS* negligent and god is NOT negligent peace axeman
Might as well make it all five planes plus the bus and the running over the cliff. So far you have included everything but a drunk. The list could certainly grow. How about flight 800, lava flows, earthquakes, diseases , famine, and even old age. Might as well hold Him responsible for all of it as trying to be selective. What you might finally get back to is "Why was death ever allowed to enter the world in the first place." Fact of life death is here.
I already explained that this does NOT mean that every life should be saved, so drop that excuse already. peace axeman ___________________________________________ So then which ones should and which ones shouldn't? If some should and some shouldn't then who should be the judge of who goes and who stays?
Hey LISTEN UP.. You so much as admitted that DEATH, SUFFERING, DISEASE are here BECAUSE your god wants it this way! Now, the question is what manner of god would wish this upon his subjects?
Not because He wanted it this way but He allowed it to be this way after someone chose this way rather than the other. You are free to choose every day ( to pull the trigger and trade or not to trade) and if you choose wrong you have to pay the consequences. On a trading website that should be pretty obvious.
wanted it this way or allowed it this way.. whatever semantic dodge you wish to choose, god can make it all better but wont do it. thats nasty!
If He made it all better which way would you choose. Of course you would and should want to know if there are any qualifications to either side of the choices. Look at the animal world. There a millions of carnevous out there that aren't eating grass. We can argue forever about evolution and creation but in the meantime the carnevours keep on eating. So you can blame evolution or a creator or something else but it still goes on. We can make ourselves feel good by saying the carnevours only kill the old and weak but there just aren't that many old or weak to feed everyone so killing just happens. The best you can hope for is health, 3 squares, and a little happiness. Some find it through a god or gods others find it by attacking those who have found a little happiness, so it really is personal and to each his own. I have no problem with another man's beliefs or god or gods but I do have a problem with people attacking anothers beliefs and calling them stupid or worse just to try to justify their own hangups.
How many times can you dodge the core of my argument??? Simply amazing. This is so simple, and yet you TRY to make it more complicated on purpose to muddy the logical waters. IN MY KIDS OFF THE CLIFF ANALOGY, I apply the court room logic to a case of obvious negligence. ALL cases of death, as you are incorrectly implying, ***** ARE NOT CASES OF NEGLIGENCE WHERE INNOCENT CHILDREN DIE **** This is just another strawman. You conveniently expand this to ALL cases, when I am clearly speaking of negligence involving innocent deaths. STICK TO MY CASE and argue MY case, not your greatly expanded cases that have nothing to do with negligence or people killing themselves because of THEIR choices. Let's take your famine example. If someone is starving to death in africa, can you hold me negligent for not finding and giving them food. NO!!! So drop the bullshit and either address MY CASE, or concede that you cannot and that god must be held negligent for THE SAME REASONS the man who stands idly by is held negligent. peace axeman
For starters I want Him to do away with famine and pestilence and suffering and death beginning with the children working up to us atheists.. Then sprinkle a good strong dose of Happiness over good ol mother Earth so we can all live in peace and harmony. That cant be too much to ask of an omnipotent ruler of the universe type being, afterall it's not like I'm asking for a major overhaul of the whole Universe!
