CNN and other outlets first reported the numbers -- which showed Trump trailing Joe Biden in states like Michigan and Wisconsin -- weeks ago, but a purge of the polling team was proposed after Trump grew angry about coverage of the numbers in recent days. Campaign officials were frustrated after the detailed numbers of four of the 17 states polled leaked to outlets like ABC last week.
Polls are a snapshot in time and they can be used to indicate trends. Polls are useful. Polls were very much a big talking point for Trump in the primary when he was running for the nomination but not so much when he was running in the general election. Trump will tout a poll when it seems like it reflects him in a good way but will steer clear of talking about the poor one publicly. Make no mistake though, trump is obsessed with polls. Almost all of his campaign promises are based on polls.
