It should be even more expensive. Trash food should cost dozens of dollars so people stop eating that shit. It takes 10 minutes to make mayonnaise.
$6 a dozen for the XL at my local Publix - double-plus what I paid the last time I bought some. I don't get them all that often - I prefer my protein from pork or chicken - but it wasn't all that long ago, a few weeks at most. And yeah, they were ~$1 not all that long ago.
Poor people will just resort to even lower-end shit. Face it: to anyone that regularly buys bread at bodegas, this "trash food" idea is just you speaking Martian.
I don't pretend to educate Americans at eating, you guys are an example of how not to eat. Just saying that if you have to pay for something that you can make in ten minutes you deserved to be charged a lot more, maybe you will stop doing it.
Elitist much? I can find you plenty of people here in the US that will sneer at whatever you're so proud of eating because it's rated below pig swill in their world. There are also lots of people who came here from other countries and see the "trash" you're holding your nose about as the best thing they've seen. A friend of mine (US-born American) lives in Spain, and he could read you the Riot Act in the special 12-volume edition about the nasty shit he gets to put up with over there. Any place has lots of things to criticize.
We only have more than 3000 dishes identified by name and region. The BBC tried to run a show on Spanish food and run out of time while it covered a small percentage of dishes. You guys eat shit. This is just a small list of dishes. https://www.caceroladas.com/p/r.html?m=1 Show me a list of "American" food, let's laugh at it
