50% Annual Returns

  1. I think your long picks are good, however, I would not take them myself without hedging.

If you decide to have both the longs and shorts listed I think it would be safer for myself, others who want more risk can do as they want.

RS and FUL taking quite a haircut. With DOW stating they expect earnings to decrease for a few years, and FUL dropping in tandem, would people still continue to hold FUL for the full 20 days? Also, RS chart getting pretty ugly. Anyone use discretionary exits with this and how have they faired in the past?

  3. Indeed, ugly day for many holdings today. The way this strategy achieves said returns is by allowing stocks to swing around and relying on the complete portfolio performance over time.

I do not worry about daily swings of individual components, the performance will not be achieved if a stock is exited as soon as it has a bad few days. So to answer your question, yes RS and FUL should still be kept, but they should only be 5% of your equity.

  6. By the way I have been thinking alot about 5 years ago today and just thought I would share my experience . In 2001 I was trading futures exclusively. That morning I had just bought 1 S&P and was planning to build on the position, then all the exchanges closed before I knew what was going on (didn't have live news at the time). Right away my thought was how to get out of the position so I called a broker buddy in NY and he told me what was going on. I said 'when are the exchanges opening again' my friend said 'there are no more exchanges...' He was in midtown so he didn't know the details, nobody did. All of a sudden it hit me, and my open position was the last of my worries. I went home to my wife and kids and had a hard time comprehending what had happened.

Anyway, I got out of my position 7 days later for a 100% loss, it was only one contract so it didn't really hurt financially, but it did emotionally.

    Just felt like sharing that.

  8. is the hybone connected to the funnybone ?

can someone please do the math here ?
I want to see if this means 5 million from 70k in one yr
    with no drawdowns ?

    -Hybone-
-hoever said account size doesn't matter obviously doesn't know trading. At 70K you should be able to return 50% per month, not per yr. -

    :p

  10. You mention a shorting strategy. I'm not asking you to give away the farm, but I've been looking for a shorting strategy that works for awhile. I have a long strategy that I've stuck to over the years that has done me well. I guess my question is, are you simply applying your rules in reverse to short? I find that that just doesn't seem to work. Care to share any pointers?
