5 Things I have learned in 5 years of trading!

Discussion in 'Trading' started by sebking1986, Aug 16, 2021.

  1. Some people will differ on how they use TA. Some will swear by TLs, indicators, pure price action, using smart money principles. On which time frames, longs or shorts. There is enough that people can find something that works best for them.

I agree about the goals. The process needs to be on point for any financial reward to manifest. I used that goal as an example but in any case the goal needs to be relative to where you are now and not where someone else is.

  2. There is ONE "right way" to use TA. You trade the correlation with a tight stop. That's it. It's not a matter of "works for one, but not for another"... not a matter of "how you interpret it".

    KISS, baby... as always.

  3. I trade using smart money concepts and that works for me. Trend lines don't in my opinion but there will be many who make a living using them. If it works, use it. I'm not here to preach about the "right way", just give an opinion on what I have found.

If you disagree with that though that's cool. We all have different experiences

  4. Learn Price TA... you'll do better. And BTW... "Trend lines" (one of the Price TA correlations) work, in spite of your opinion.

  5. I spent time working with TLs and traditional TA as you call it and I found smart money concepts better. I'm really not sure why you're insisting I change my trading that I'm settled on to suit your way. If TA is working for you, great. Being aware of TA methods helps me using SMC for sure but I only use trends for divergence (EURUSD to DXY for example). I personally find traditional tendlines too subjective.

  6. "Smart Money" concepts? That sounds highly subjective. Please explain or at least provide a couple of examples.

Trendlines are NOT subjective at all. Either they hold or they break. In either case useful information is conveyed.

I'm not suggesting you "change your method". I'm telling you that Price TA is as close to "absolute" as it gets. If you endeavored to include Price TA, "just for the heck of it to see how it works", you'd soon reject all else.

  7. I never said, "traditional TA". I said "Price TA".

  8. The reason I'm "getting on your case" a little bit is because you post onto the board that what you've learned in 5 years is worthy of consideration for all of us.

In my view, you're "out of your lane".

If I were still a money manager and you presented your resume hoping to get a job with me... I might hire you as a junior intern. You obviously know some... but not enough to be pontificating. If you've got more... please, let's hear it.

  9. Anything by Inner Circle Trader (ICT) could be considered SMC.

TLs can be as some will say wick to wick and others body to body. Only a daily chart this can make a huge difference on whether a trend is broken on holds.

I'm saying based on my experience of learning with TA and then using SMC that I don't think TA is as close to absolute as it gets. However, if it works for you, more power to you. But this is why I would never be inclined to teach or give signals. I prefer to use what I have found works for me and keep my head down with it. I know some people are very militant with TA and others very much so with ICT concepts. As I've said all along, find what works and crack on.

  10. I didn't realise I was interviewing for a job. I was simply giving my opinions on some things I think are worthy of discussing. I am happy to discuss those and anything else but I'm not here to force anyone to think my opinion is absolute as it clearly isn't.

"In my view, you're "out of your lane"." - For having an opinion on a forum and being open to discuss ideas?
