I work for ICAP and I trade via ETrade on the side...got lucky last week with 5k shares of CPN from 0.34 to 0.42.

I also popped the USC, TEXAS spreads & the Jermaine Taylor/Hopkins fight bets for a little extra dough.

windiff needs to read some GS financials and understand their business abit before making claiming he worked there.

Additionally I thing GS stock is a long term sell, all the way into 50 - 80 range

    Happy trading kids

tomcole is 100% correct. A large part of their money now comes from principal investing and trading (check their financial statements). Other sources of money are their asset management (commissions in the form of management fees), M&A and advising (commissions in the form of deal fees) and market making (commissions in the form of the spread). But read any number of articles on how GS has been getting more and more involved in principal investing and how profitable (as well as more more variable). Also to the idiot who thought the title is true, your a moron. Sorry to state the obvious for everyone else thats average compensation expense which includes all benefits (including healthcare and retirement). And once again average. And for an earlier post several threads ago, Partners no longer exist at GS. Thats what happens when you take a private partnership public.

  8. Sigh, why people would assume knowledge I have no idea. The partnership pool still exists in GS, I believe it is a 10 year period after the IPO (I should read their S-1 filing yet). The following press release indicates the promotions from MD to be included the partnership Pool:

  9. Either involves risk, but you can't lose a job you don't have/take. I don't understand the concern of layoff... and I'd rather have GS on the CV than an obscure[to most] vol-firm.

The barrier to entry is certainly > with GS. You can always get into trading at some point in the future. If you bust your ass at either job you're likely to succeed beyond your expectations. With ibanking you're more likely to get the black AMEX quicker.
