  2. Keep digging. He did not mean the possessive case. If that was what he wanted, then it would have been a grammatical error because the sentence would not have been complete. ("Your stupid...what?") But he said what he wanted to say. Incorrectly. (Hey, I only brought it up because you defended an error.)

    It's not a matter of what he wanted.
    It's a matter of what he wrote; which was incorrect.
