Gave them up voluntarily? Umm... I'm not sure how to respond to that. I calculate the chances of that happening as being equivalent to the chance that 3 dark asteriods will crash into the Earth in the next 20 seconds and eliminate all life on the planet.
Lol. Are you serious? You're stumped as to why someone might give up ET moderator privileges? Get real. It's hardly giving away a seat on the NYSE.
Exactly. And if we had to choose the most immoderate ET member, and narrowed it down to a top 10 among 50,000+ members, this juvenille would be right up there. Pabst's posts, with their absurd generalizations, are the definition of 'immoderate'. And one more time, I am on the front lines of the battle aginst PC bullshit. My intellectual hero is Robert Hughes. This has absolutely nothing to do with PC whining. Pabst is a despicable racist. As I said, has I seen that his mod privileges had been revoked, I would not have posted here.
I never said that you believed that. My point is, who cares if a guy is a mod, even he does hold "virulent" views, if he does not act immoderately? Again, never saw a problem in this regard. After watching Beetlebrow in action, yet again, I don't care how stagnant Pabst's pool is, or even Hapaboy's--they are "centrist" . Beetlebrow defines the lunatic fringe. Granted, that's off. But keep in mind that I'm constantly hammering on Pabst to even define "black". "Whites" DO fear people of color, at least, assuming that Pabst is once again broad brushing, that his experience is really only of the flat-footed fatties that comprise the American middle-class. I'm in a good mood today, so I'm inclined to not call Pabst racist so much as one who has some racist views. I'm not one of the PC police. In fact, I really don't care if a view is PC, or not. I want to get at the truth as much as that is possible. And I am sparring with Pabst, in this very thread, about his prejudicial statements. I was just about to mention that I believe the lifestyle he's describing would be more accurately called a "loser" lifestyle, than a black lifestyle. This view has some basis in the writings of Theodore Dalrymple, another prison employee (doctor), who takes a non-PC look at inmates. In closing I'd like to say that 50% of all people have below average intelligence, no matter how you measure it.
Man, you clearly don't understand this type of personality. Being a mod here was probably one of the best things in his life. Do you really believe that a person who holds such infantile views would give up being in a position of power over his adversaries? Have you not noticed that there are people who spend a LOT of time here? You may actually have a life - I do. But there are lots and lots of people who live their lives through the 'net. Anyhow, this is off-topic, isn't it. Let's leave the thread to Pabst and his co-religionists.
But why should it matter if a moderator is immoderate in his views? He either moderates effectively or he doesn't. If you claim he must subscribe to moderate views then you are being PC.
I think your implication that Pabst may have lost his mod privilege because of his views is simply wrong. As proof, I offer TGregg.
There have, have there? Such as...what? Environment? Socioeconomic status? The same tired old list that prompted researchers to look at inherited traits in the first place? Something else? I'd love to hear it.
Hi Ricter I didn't really have a read on your position, so I'll try to read some more of your posts. I'll respond briefly to a few of your points. I sure don't. But Pabst showed an inability to act moderately, didn't he? He continued to post up outrageous statements like these. In this we are in agreement. Hap is nowhere even close to this, in my mind. Hap is a good guy - he doesn't hold mindless views, he just has strong views about personal accountability. I was not aware of that. I am glad you're taking the time to do it - I can't be bothered any more. This discussion is a long one. Yes, white people should fear people of colour in very specific circumstances. White People should also fear other white people in other very specific circumstances. The problem is one of seepage. Since Pabst is unwilling to attempt to distinguish between various subsets of the group 'people of colour' (as evinced by his posts with their mind-bogglingly blanket statements), he prejudges all the people who fit the description without situational context. In pabst' view, if he sees two black families in the mall, 2 kids each, he assumes that 35% of them are assholes. He assumes that they are going to go home and eat fried chicken and then smoke some crack. It takes mental strength to prevent seepage, to prevent your natural and rational fear of i.e. young black men with do rags moving in groups late at night and calling out to you 'hey man! hey man!' to infect your perception of a young black man with his wife and two kids shopping in a mall on Saturday afternoon. Your forbearance is impressive. I am unsure about the distinction you are making here. I have no problem calling Pabst a virulent ignorant racist thug who is on par with those he presumes to denigrate, and who deserves whatever he gets. You are a bit more cool-headed than I am. This is a good way to put it. True enough. I'll refrain from providing my estimate of Pabst's percentile. My views are clear by this time.
Trader Nik: Don't you live in Canada? Why not Chicago or the Bronx or Newark? Do you even know more than several blacks? Canada has 593,335 blacks, Chicago has 1.1 million. That means there's twice as many blacks within a 15 mile radius of my home than in the 3,849,675 SQUARE MILES of Canada. Thus you know dick about dick. As I've stated before, I've worked with, been neighbors with, (next door), worshipped with, played sports with, done drugs with, THOUSANDS of blacks. Being a Canadian it would be virtually impossible for you to have that diverse range of interaction. In fact my experience with Muslims would be like yours with blacks. There's many Muslims in Chicago and I've never had a bad incident. However Christians or Jews who've lived among Muslims in Europe or Asia have a different take. Just because your experiences and perceptions are different than mine gives you ZERO excuse to denigrate my opinions. It would be like me telling a guy in Tel Aviv, "Muslim's are great. The guy I buy my Häagen-Dazs from is a prince." I see one thing others see something different. And also, rather than just being some message board hack, I ran in 2004 for U.S. Congress and stated my opinions publicly with my name and address attached to all my thoughts, some receiving vast media attention.
