I've thought about those outlier days often. You finish your set and say "where the fuck did that come from? And how do I keep it??!!!!" Then the next time you do that body part you are fired up and ready to repeat only to end up furious because you can't come close to replicating it.

Ok did 50 within 2 mins then started to shake and lose form after that so stopped. I'll be back in a few weeks .
I'm actually sore in my lower lats, which I wasn't expecting at all from pushups. Go figure. It would probably be a kick-ass experiment to see how many ass-to-floor air squats you can do in three minutes, but you'd probably need a puke bucket for that one.
