Let them. It will only expose China as the assholes earlier than it will eventually anyway. Or do you believe for one second that China is doing so because it has such a big heart for the needy? This is future territory for the Chinese population explosion and for geo political influence. It's like when you cannot afford a Mercedes you buy a cheaper car so you can still roam the blocks and show off you got a car.
When Joe Rogan has a Tijuana Guest on saying that the Migrant Caravans are NOT welcome in Mexico by the citizens (but welcomed by the politicos) and the Tijuana residents hated them. He says that many Mexicans viewed the Caravans as subsidized political attention seekers. In fact, he shows a very popular hat worn in Tijuana that says: "Make Tijuana Mexican Again"
From this post and others, it's plain you don't get it. The way to cure termites in the back bedroom is not to close the door.
So what is the "right solution"? Kick out the existing termites? What if more termites knock on your bedroom door?
The solution is long-lensed, involved, filled with subtleties and nuance, based strategic thinking, clothed in solid principles. The solution is Statecraft. Who's going to man the border defenses you envision? YOUR sons and daughters? Do they lose an arm or leg in the process? Who's going to buy the gasoline, ammunition, training supplies? YOUR tax dollars? Defense ALWAYS costs more. The Stable Genius spent $65,000,000 to blow holes in some Syrian runways -- the effects of which lasted 48 hours -- but protests spending $100,000,000 in ANNUAL humanitarian aid to our southern neighbors, because there remained people miserable enough to leave their collapsing social structures. F-ing genius. And now WE, THE U.S. TAXPAYERS, have this on our border, and we're spending $BILLIONS to address it. Maybe I'm humanitarian, sure. Or maybe I'm just CHEAP.
Or maybe you just throw your arms up and provide zero solutions. The question was that you yourself brought up, how to get rid of the termites. You don't want a border wall, you don't want tariffs to force countries to limit the economic migrants they let move through their country to your border. You don't want border patrol agents. So, you are saying you want none and just let more illegals in? I just prefer a simply clear answer if you could. Can we be humanitarian AND secure our border and keep illegals out?
If you are paying coyotes thousands of dollars to smuggle you across two borders - you’re not a true refugee, you’re an opportunist. The real victims and exploited could never afford to pay that. Hell, half of US Citizens probably couldn’t come up with thousands of dollars. Listen to Ed Calderon from Tijuana on Joe Rogans podcast - the Mexican citizens themselves are sick and tired of the caravans. These people are not poor and they have an agenda. Hell, the Caravans complain about being fed rice and beans and tortillas! I guess they want steak and fish and Dos Equis.
I doubt a whole lot of avocado toast downing millennials and others in denial actually understand this. To them the rest of the world should be allowed in, no questions asked. And they don't care because it's not them who accommodate them in their homes. They could not care less as long as always others foot the bills.
You're a smart guy. I don't know if you have *ever* posted something market-wise or trading-wise with which I have had an issue. But the most *complex* of trading/investments is still simple enough to be coded. International Relations (no matter how realpolitik it may be when up close) is not simple. It is (to quote myself) "...long-lensed, involved, filled with subtleties and nuance, based [in] strategic thinking, clothed in solid principles. The solution is Statecraft." That is not a quick nor a simple answer, and so you get the last word to clang an objection. But the fact remains that the current path to isolationism denies the stabilizing influence we had amongst our enemies and our friends, and we now face a more-unstable world, populated by enemies who play us like a fiddle, and friends who have seen the severed ties and have taken their loyalties elsewhere. Ponder that -- it's a fucking disaster. Isolationism throughout history, anywhere on the globe -- lessens the country that practices it. Without exception. Defense is always more expensive.
The US has something like 800 military bases in about 70 Countries - hardly isolationist by any standard. Don’t conflate isolationism with nationalism. Oh, and look at recent elections in the EU and in India - Trump and the US is hardly the only citizenry with nationalist trends.
