Mass migrations has been a fave destabilization method of Kremlin for ages. And our policy makers have known this all along, somehow our sophisticated media missed this. Study history, gentlemen. Walter Duranties of today are as busy as they ever were. Rare elements: China is also the biggest importer of rare earth elements, at least, for 2018. Tells you something, doesn't it? Where do they import the stuff from? Study the subject, gentlemen, stop the hysteria and back to your Communist dreams of getting rich via minimum efforts.
Tariffs imposed upon Mexico for not stopping illegal immigration from their side seems like a good idea.... perhaps even brilliant.... considering what Trump has to work with on our side of the border.
Trump just put another tax on the U.S. consumers & businesses who pay the brunt of this. Trump speaks or tweets with his 8th grade level English, & 'Homer Simpson' like ignorance is going to end very badly for us. The last time the U.S. put on trade wars like this it was catastrophic, it gave rise to Hitler/WW2! Globalization is good for U.S. consumers, it gives us incredible buying power & access to any products we want. When the richest people try to sell you on the notion that some poor hard working immigrants are the ones causing you all your problems - don't believe it for a minute. Illegal immigrants have always been a significant profit center for the U.S.. Trump is making China great again, pulling out of the TPP enabled China to take lead of the Asia rim & to get more business from our Euro allies. China's Xi said Trump is just a showman with no real strategy, the easiest president to deal with so far. Xi considers China to be lucky to have Trump.
NAFTA+ was in the ratification stages. NAFTA still in force until NAFTA+ is ratified. On April 28, 2019, Republican Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, stating that "Congress won’t approve USMCA while constituents pay the price for Mexican and Canadian retaliation." Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) condemned President Trump's new tariffs on Mexico late Thursday, calling the move a "misuse" of presidential tariff authority and cautioning the levies could derail passage of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). "Trade policy and border security are separate issues. This is a misuse of presidential tariff authority and counter to congressional intent," Grassley said in a statement. The lawmaker cautioned that following through on Trump's tariff threat "would seriously jeopardize passage of USMCA," a revision of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
looks like Obrador is chickening on retaliatory tariffs and is opting for the hippy route: https://www.apnews.com/0e406b5b8a8c405491461188022a824c The Latest: Mexican leader warns against ‘coercive measures’ Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador says his foreign relations secretary will lead a delegation to seek a peaceful and negotiated solution to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to impose stiff tariffs on goods from Mexico if the country doesn’t do more to slow irregular migration. López Obrador said late Thursday in a public letter addressed to Trump that “social problems are not solved with duties or coercive measures,” and alluded to the United States’ history as a nation of immigrants: “The Statue of Liberty is not an empty symbol.” López Obrador wrote that Mexico is doing its part to avoid migration through its territory as much as possible, without violating human rights. The Mexican leader also urged Trump to “please, remember that I do not lack valor, that I am not a coward nor timorous but rather act according to principles.”
Lopez nailed it - very intelligent. Took Trump to school like other leaders have on common decency 101 & the principals of the United States. Trump is a real slow learner - he still only salutes only dictators like Kim Jong Un - freakin moron! Trump always sounds like an illiterate, angry, racist, psycho, con artist, that has only hate for other cultures - like a real backwoods KKK psycho. Trump represents the worst of the U.S.!
I think there is some valid point. Trump did not have has war chest topped up and use it to invest in rare earth mining. China had stopped shipping rare earth to Japan before. I thought US should have been well prepared, and have vital supplies in place by now.
https://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/30/her...strict-rare-earth-minerals-is-so-serious.html U.S. consumption of rare earth compounds and metals relies heavily on imports, which rose to $160 million in 2018. Eighty percent were from China.
