Thanks for sharing. The biggest anomaly is September. Volatility was still low and the market went sideways, no big moves in either directions. Yet you managed to make it the biggest losing month. So averaging into losers doesn't explain it...
Thanks for sharing. You already know this but as a reminder, adapt your strategy or drawdowns will continue.
In the last 4 years, except in 2017, you lost money during the Sept-Dec period. Maybe just stop trading when September comes, specially if you are nicely up already... But at least scale down... Out of those 4 years, 2017 was the only one without a significant Sept-Nov sell off...
Period Update 01/01/2019 - 03/31/2019 ---------- Flat three months, up 4K The reduced trading continues. The only thing I have worked on is reversing the decision to only do automated trading. The issue before now has been not resisting the urge to overtrade sometimes, or to go on doubling down and do revenge trading, not because my discretion is bad. Accordingly I have decided to allow only one discretionary stock and one discretionary option entry each day - My first idea of the day (or one choice among many) always seem to be better than average for the rest of the day. I am working on classifying these trades into three conviction classes, and allow more leverage for the highest conviction. Still early, but I am aiming to reduce the big swings. Period Update 03/31/2019 - 06/30/2019 ---------- Positive 3 months, up 39K (34%). Profitable 3/3 months. Still chugging along with my revised automated/discretionary combo. Greater focus on the one idea of the day (for stock and then option). The rest is automated. So far so good, the accumulation of gains is reflective of my reduced size - which is great for reducing the volatility in the account. I am more focused now on the long-term game, instead of trying to hit new highs in a month. Still a long way from testing the highs once attained, but I am optimistic it will come.
