2 Day ROC

Discussion in 'Technical Analysis' started by skyfisherman, Aug 30, 2004.

  1. you been eating alot of sugar today?

no, that's not the chart layout i use and i don't use Barcharts.com . . . (to my knowledge they still don't offer volume ???), but they are nice clear charts for posting examples

i don't look at any indicators during the day except for a 20 period ma (simple), just price and volume on intra-day charts. the only time i look at the ROC and daily charts is at night

the 2 day ROC is just identifying nice two day swings. the idea is: in one day, out the next. the only objective for today was to take out Friday's high, the hogs traded at the high today, but couldn't take it out. there's no sense in letting "Mo" turn into "hope"

playing for the follow-thru is all well and good, but YOU have to know thru testing and experience if it suits YOU . . . and whether you want to hold a trade over the weekend. since the hogs laid approx 100 pts on the table Friday, there's no rule against just taking it and being happy . . . its a matter of personal preference (risk profile, ect). if you're looking for long glorious runs, this ain't the place to find them. there's nothing wrong with just hitting singles, and actually, 100 pts on the hogs is more than a single . . .

  2. Thanks for the answers.

I tried to post a chart from Barchart in my post. It showed the Hogs chart with Keltners overlayed on Price and ROC below the Price Action. When I previewed the post before submitting it...everything looked fine. Now, I see it is a completly DIFFERENT chart than the one I posted. What's up with that ?

  3. skyfisherman,

looks as though you posted a link to the website, i've never gone that route, doesn't appear to work too well . . .

probably better to save the chart to your machine (if getting charts from Barchart), then post it from there

but you do get more variety posting the link . . .

  4. Jeeez...

...everytime I pull up this thread my "Lean Hogs" posted chart is something completely different from what I originally posted.

Funny...as an experiment...I posted a chart (from Barchart) to another message board last night. Much like here everything looked fine after the post was made.

Today it shows a chart of "Spherion Corp" whatever the hell that is !

I see that my "Lean Hogs" chart that I posted here (1/31) is now an Emini 30 min NAZ chart. That of course, after morphing into many other charts each and every time I come to this thread.

    Sheeesh !

I've been talking with the Elite Trader Support people to try and find out more about posting charts here. I'm obviously not doing something right !

thinskis, what process do you use when posting Barchart.com charts here ?

I guess I could do a screen save...paste the Chart into Paint...Save it as a jpeg etc...then upload that jpeg file to some image host site (like PhotoTrail etc.). Then try to use a URL from PhotoTrail to post in to Elite Trader.

    Is ALL THAT necessary ?

What do you do ? tia

  7. nkhoi,

    Thanks !

Looked at both Snagit and MWSnag. Then, downloaded MWSnag last night...mainly because it was Freeware. I'm gonna play around with it.

Let's move this discussion over to the thread you showed in your post...

    -------------------------------------------------------

That way we don't clutter this thread up with stuff unrelated to the intended purpose... ie... ROC(2) ! tia

  9. this is as good as it gets

paying attention to the ROC pivots on a daily basis will help lead you into these setups

there was a "buy day" on Friday, and a "sell short day" on Tuesday. doesn't always work out quite that well, but when the Mo has it going . . .

  10. thinskis...

...don't interpret the lack of an immediate response to your latest post as a lack of interest...far from it !!!

Rest assured that I'm hanging on every chart...every description of every chart...every insight that you are compelled to offer up.

I'm currently going over your recent NAZ 100 chart...calculating ROC Pivots...as far back as mid to late January...trying to gain a "feel" for the process of Daily ROC Pivot calculations (per your method)...and...more importantly...<u>trying to interpret those calculated Pivots into some sort of "bias</u>" for the following day !

In other words...trying to determine what constitutes...a "BUY DAY...a "SELL DAY"...and a "SELL SHORT DAY" ?

Would love to hear MORE about going <u>INTO</u> a NEW trading day !

How do you anticipate whether or not the following day is a "BUY" or a "SELL" or a "SELL SHORT DAY" ?

Of course, I understand ROC Divergences with Price...and you've illustrated HOW the ROC(2) does a decent job of signaling those...(as does a 3/10 Price Oscillator...and...an RSI(9) for that matter).

And yes...I also understand the possible...multi-colinearity" with some of the indicators I just mentioned.

In addition, I also use Keltners(10) to help keep things in perspective. Trading Bands (and in particular Keltners) are good about keeping moves in perspective. but, I want MORE than that !

    HOW DO YOU DETERMINE A "<u>BUY DAY</u>"...A "<u>SELL DAY</u>"...or, a "<u>SELL SHORT DAY</u>" <u>BASED ON ROC(2)</u> ???

Do you establish that "bias"...and label it as such (mentally) BEFORE the following trading day ? Or, do you...wait fot the chart to develop the following day...and then...based on Price Action...and...Night before ROC Pivot calculations...determine whether the current day should THEN be "labeled" a "BUY" a "SELL"...or a "SELL SHORT"...and THEN enter...in anticipation of some sort of follow-thru the next day...based on those assumptions ?

    Please elaborate...and, be specific !!!

    Many thanks,

    skyfisherman :8^)
