Great posts! By cool you probably mean the trade taken on last 1 or 2 bars? If so, do you mind sharing core decision process fro this trade? Is that trade triggered by slope of ROC (seems more likely to me) or some divergence (can't spot it, but what do I know...)?
it was already explained rather well by the gentleman a couple of posts ago. if that doesn't suffice, go back to the original hog example, pretty much an identical setup
yes, I'm still "fishing"... ...I've gone over these posts numerous times and continue to glean new insight each time I do. I am interested in seeing many more chart examples and insight from "thinskis" (and others) about the nuances of this indicator (2 period ROC). Repetition is the Mother of Success !!! On a selfish note, since I am a Stock Trader, it's easier for ME to pull-up and follow the chart examples when they are Equity related (ie. Stock Indices). It would be great to also include some individual stock chart examples as well but, heh...I'll take whatever I can get. LOL I would also like to see more, with respect to the "slope opposition" concept that "thinskis" referred to earlier on in the thread. Examples showing both ROC(2) AND MACD(3,10,16) and the thought process associated with the interaction of these would be very much appreciated. I can't thank everyone who has contributed to this thread enough and especially "thinskis" for sharing some of his methods and for both keeping the thread going and for keeping it ON TOPIC. It has been extremely helpful ! Happy 2005 everybody ! "ROC Rocks" !!! skyfisherman :8^)
anybody see this jewel setting up ? appears to be some who were expecting it . . .
no follow-thru here, but its good to look at one like this. even the ROC has its bad days. kind of had to figure, after 3 tries up this morning got nowhere, the Mo was gone
okay, i can take a hint . . . here's a nice equity chart -- soybeans beans had made new Mo lows, so after 2 days up on the ROC, looking for them to test back down it was all down today . . .
ideally, one would like to see a "buy day" test down first, and a "sell short" day test up first with this in mind, its important to note the location of the day's pivot #. if we are looking to buy, as in the hogs today, we want to see the pivot # below the market, and look to use it as support for today the hogs had a pivot of 7417. the first thing they did was test down, traded to 7430 and found support. the rest of the day was up, as one might suspect from the nice short-term divergence. the hogs followed the script to a "T" today remember, you define the "game", and if the market isn't acting right, leave it for another day. if it is acting right, be thankful . . .
thinskis, is price retraction required in addition to ROC slope opposition? Sometimes ROC can oppose trend while the price does not retract much. Thank you for your contributions to this board.
thanks for the expression, TraderD in regard to your question . . . remember you define the "game" and so, set the requirements. but in general, the better quality setups will have what you call "retraction". using the latest hogs as an example, its nice to see the price moving down for a couple of days in conjunction with the ROC, before looking to buy a lack of "retraction" will often go hand-in-hand with range contraction, and therefore signal a low volatility situation
thinskis, Is that your actual Chart Layout that you use (ie. the layout in your posted charts) ? Do you really overlay the ROC on top of Price Action ? Do you include other indicators in your Chart Layout ? I know you mentioned a 3,10,16 MACD at one time. Do you look at MAs...and, if so...do you have any favorites ? Do you use any sort of Trading Bands/Channels...Keltner Channels for example ? And lastly...what charting program do you use...or, do you actually use Barcharts.com ? Just curious. Thanks in advance ! skyfisherman :8^) PS. Great post on the recent Hog chart. Very good stuff ! PSS. Please feel free to offer some follow-up on today's Price Action with the Hog Chart. I figured the Pivot for today to be 7512. We will apparently Close above that...but, the Candle that printed doesn't exactly look bullish. Thoughts ?
