As with most everything else, the lashing out at recipients masks where the bulk of the blame should really be directed at -- the feet of government and corporations.

We'd have a whole lot less of all entitlements if the "right" to vote had to be suspended while on government subsistence. Same goes for the "right" to contribute to a political campaign if you're in the midst of laying off workers or shipping jobs off-shore.

Interestingly enough, the WSJ did a piece on foodstamps today. Funny how a lot of the capitalist "red" states have higher percentages of foodstamp recipients than the socialist "blue" states. CA and NJ at less than 10% while TX is just as bad as NY with 15% receiving foodstamps.

  2. Are you people rightarded? This thread started as a lie and it still is. The title of the thread was "18.3% of personal income is from food stamps" and it linked

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/usaedi...ntsnew_ST_U.htm

    Which says

"A record 18.3% of the nation's total personal income was a payment from the government for Social Security, Medicare, food stamps, unemployment benefits and other programs in 2010. Wages accounted for the lowest share of income — 51.0% — since the government began keeping track in 1929."

Whereas Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid probably account for 80% of the government payout to social insurance (the cited 18%) then the actual food stamp portion is about 3.7% of the "income". The interesting part of this article is that it tells us that only 51% of the nation's income was earned. 18% was received as "benefits". That leaves 30.7% that was taken as unearned interest, royalties, rents, and other rentier "entitlements". And the graphs reflect the economic train wreck created by the rentiers.
