Thought Snukselle was cracking a joke/being sarcastic at the "physical toll gaming puts on your body." Didn't realize he was actually being serious
It does put a strain on the body but then again, so does trading and many other activities with a lot of sitting involved.
oh... burn out is a real issue among the e sport pros.... the team house/trainer/cook thing does help.... also currently there are no players' union so there is no collective bargaining to limit training hours. I jokingly tell my son he is not a professional, but a gaming slave, because the minor league salary is about minimum wage if you divide it into how many hours they train.. at home I am his nutritionist (getting him the best food, 3 meals a day), his trainer (dragging him to rock gym 3 times a week), and his tech support (buying the best computer, peripherals, gaming chair, desk..).
You can't become the best by doing it in moderation, at least until you reach the top. You have to be all-in.
so is true for any sports... especially high impact stuff... hockey football boxing... lots of issues after guys retire... even moderate impact stuff like tennis, track n field... the pressure of competition... guys/gals usually retire with lots of worn out body parts.
Mreh, FPS. I'd like to see a 6-DOF tournament. THAT would be talent. Not this Quake knock-off crap. (Sorry, I'm a bit old school on this. FPS is BORING!) The 6 DOF Descent-types were FUN!
I've played contact sports and have done marathon gaming sessions. The physical toll just isn't comparable. That's why I thought you were joking. It's about as bad as a desk job, at least at home you get to pick your chair. Don't get me wrong, you'll become an obese mess and your posture will suffer from it, but so is the result of being boxed in a cubicle.
