I use Seagate ES (Enterprise Series) drives. Seagate has the only 5 year warranty that I am aware of. Never had a problem.
I was reading about something called "dark silicon", it should allow for much bigger memory chips and much cheaper when it gets to the market. Probably at that time mechanical disk drives will be completely gone.
