Assuming you are serious I would be curious to understand how you get to this statement. Conservative during that time was more in alignment with someone like the British politician Edmund Burke (best conservative writer of that time), and conservatives of that type have more in common with today's moderately conservative Democrats (i.e., Biden and Hillary Clinton as examples). Trump-party types are not really conservative by any measure and are better termed reactionaries. Many of my liberal friends think of Biden and Clinton as moderate Republicans.

  3. I don't see the issue of Left Wing or Right Wing being about "conservative" or "liberal"... but rather more general.

The hallmark of Leftism is large, powerful central government exercising strong control over it citizenry. Where political Right's hallmark is small government and individual rights and freedoms.

Therefore, Leftist governments are Nazi, Fascist, Communist, Progressive, Socialist... varying degrees of "left". It is wrongly said that Nazis and Fascists were "far right", when in fact they were extreme Left. Dictatorships and monarchies fall under the left umbrella as well.

America was founded with the intention that there be no central government... that the country would run on state governments and state's rights... along with individual freedoms and protections from oppressive big government (Bill of Rights). That's what makes the founding of America a Right Wing experience.

Now when it comes to the truly far right in today's society... we have anti-government militia group types. They are "right wing" because they object to big government's hobnail boots on their collective necks (and all the rest of ours too).

About half of Americans are also right wing or at least right leaning in our desire that we dislike our Big government and wish we had less of it.

The Bottom Line... Leftism is Big Government power and control while Right wing is the opposite of that. Throughout civilized society history ALL governments* have been Left to some degree. The only true Right Wing government the world has ever seen was America after the Revolutionary Wary. For the last 100 years or so, the Leftists have been chipping away at America trying to turn us too into a Leftist and authoritarian society. Sadly.

*There may be an exception or two, but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

Thanks for stating your opinion. The Constitution and Declaration of Independence were actually fairly radical for their time and are much more liberal documents than conservative documents. But liberal and conservative were much more similar in those days (as they were in America up through the 60s and 70s). So, America's liberal revolution took a quicker approach while England's 19th century revolution (more of an evolution) took a more conservative path to change (in a Burkian sense). But in reality conservatives and liberals traditionally overlapped in many ways. And you had far left fascists like Stalin, and Mao, and Ortega and far right fascists like Hitler, Putin, and Pinochet. Both liberals and conservatives believe in individual rights and freedoms. I would argue that liberals historically in America have been more about opening up individual rights and freedoms for all Americans fulfilling the promise of the American constitution and bill of rights (immigration historically, children's work regulations, women's rights, workers rights, civil rights, handicapped rights, LBGTQ rights, etc). Today's American Trump-party "conservatives" are trying to limit individual rights and freedoms in many ways. To state otherwise is to try to rewrite history.

  6. One problem with labeling "things" in term as Conservative or Liberal... is (1) they are not "oil and water", and (2) the definitions have morphed back and forth over the years... at times standing for the opposite for what they did before.

My favorite definition of "Conservative" is one who is conservative about spending other people's money... while, of course, a "Liberal" is one who spends other peoples money willingly, easily, and excessively.

Exactly the point I was trying to make (among other things). Though not so much with regard to the liberal-conservative continuum, as (in America) what it meant to be a Republican or a Democrat. As examples, Lincoln's Republican party of the mid-1800s has morphed into today's Republican party which in many ways embraces white supremacy and racism while trying to censor the teaching of racial history in our schools. And while todays' Democratic Party champions civil rights and individual rights for all Americans, it was prior to the 60s more identified with racism and maintaining white privilege.

  8. Or yours. It's just supporting a man like trump is an indication that you're not a patriot at all, just someone disgruntled at their own life and blaming others...

    How many people actually support
    candidates based on their past
    voting record?

If Jesus was running for office,
and had a past record of
    voting on raising taxes,
    pro abortion issues, global
    warming, more gun control,
    less energy dependent,
    LGBTQ issues that harm
    women, and more interventionist
    regulations that hamper economic
growth..I WOULD NEVER VOTE FOR THE MAN.

Quite frankly, if I followed the left
like the majority of my family does,
I'd probably still be dumb and broke.

    Ultra Conservative..and proud of it.
