100,000 shares at a time ?

  1. exce26 or anyone with feedback..please drop it here or PM me. In 1999, when we had much wider spreads, I would basically move in and out with 100-200 share positions skimming a couple or few pennies in this process. It was pretty much a no brainer. Just a fast internet connection and trading platform.

Now adays, since spreads are a little tighter, it seems that scapling is more of a technical skill. Meaning you must be really adapt at reading 1 minute charts along with futures movement, etc........ I guess my question is, if you wanted to do this on a consistent daily basis, going flat everynight is it a viable pursuit?

I know that on some issues, like the QQQ, there is allot of volume, so at any point you could see within a 10 second blip, four different print trades ranging a nickel or more. Obivously there is opportunity here. I guess though too much volume could hurt you if it moves too fast. Some issues trade so thin that it will not work for you, it becomes more of a chess game. What is a decent compromise, if any??

exce26, when you sited your example, were these moves in and out of your positions, or were they more of a 10-30 minute technical position based on certain price points and times of the day???

I traded QQQ 100,000,000 one day when Greenspan lowered interest rate without notice. We just kept buy any down side. We made all the short people freaked out at that moment..... We dumped it before closing hours with + gain. :D

15,000 NVDA back when it was in the high 30's. < I did not find it enjoyable.

180 es's. < soon realized that I was in over my head, and I remember thinking over and over to myself; "you f^*%ing idiot, what are you going to do when this thing breaks WAY against you?!" well it went against me by a few points and I thought well there goes quit a bit of cash. Thankfully, I ended-up with a small gain, but having that much risk was way more than I could handle ($2250 a tick). Lesson learned.

  5. 5000. I only trade my own money.

Exce26, did you really mean 100 million shares of the QQQs in one day? Total volume rarely exceeds that figure on any given day Typo?

We traded as little as 10,000 to more. We only bought at down tick. We also sold at up tick. That's how to play large shares. :p

  9. Ok Guys, I can verify this guy isn't lying, so stop wasting time trying to bust his chops.

See my poll , "Is gertsman really a young multimillionaire trader with tons of women?" under chit-chat.

Gertsman is THE MAN in my book. Just maybe not in the specialists' books.
