and 'The Work'in Man's Best Friend', the Democrats just unleashed a plan to dump 309,500 more H-1bs onto the market only Tuesday A Trillion for failed bankers 309,500 more foreign workers for the middle class one big sloppy kiss to the middle class from Obama Immigration Bill Proposes H-1B Visa Changes The Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act of 2009 would let employers tap into unused visas from previous years. By Marianne Kolbasuk McGee InformationWeek December 16, 2009 01:35 PM Worn out yet by the healthcare reform battles in Congress? Get ready for another hot-button issue resurfacing -- comprehensive immigration reform, including proposed changes to H-1B visas. Tuesday, Rep. Solomon Ortiz (D-Texas) and dozens of other co-sponsors unveiled in the U.S. House of Representatives the Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act of 2009, or CIR ASAP. This would allow employers to essentially dip into the pool of 309,500 unused H-1B visas left over from 1992 to 2008, said Alex Nowrasteh, policy analyst at Competitive Enterprise Institute, a non-partisan, non-profit think tank based in Washington, D.C. http://www.informationweek.com/news/government/leadership/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=222002313
everything that site claims is true years ago i had a job interview, and they pumped me for what i did at my job - had steven covey's 7 habits' smugly on the desk between us, facing me 2 days later, the guy shows up in my office, and my boss is impressed at how fast he picks up on what we do - he wasnt interviewing me to give me a job, he was pumping me for info under false pretenses raw unfiltered scum - the tactics of the IT recruiting industry are the lowest of the low (I've known a couple of decent guys, but they are the exception - the rule is raw lies and deception every step of the way - whatever it is they have conveyed you to believe, at a moment in time is likely a trick or a trap) this would be a very long post if I detailed every dirty trick I've ever seen pulled - pumping references for nothing but marketing leads - giving a false 'sure thing' lead, to string you out until your contract ends, so you lose your marketability - blatent bait and switch, then threatening accusations of breach of contract it you dont accept the switch (when the switch occurs after signing, it's really outright fraud) - blatently ignoring any and all tems of the contract - good cop/bad cop interview teams (one of the lessor bad tactics, but can still be nasty *in combination* with others, usually bait and switch - good cop sells the bait, bad cop bullys the switch) - good cop reels you in praising your good credentials, then bad cop berates them and bullys you into and undesireable gig for a bad rate and terms - fake jobs ads and fake interviews to qualify an H-1b - see for yourself on this youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCbFEgFajGU what the youtube DOESNT say is that every candidate who is brought in (with no chance of getting a job) will still have reference and past shop detail info demanded which they will then use for marketing INDIAN ONLY candidates - creative combinations of all of the above - i've seen every one of the things personally, and i saw them in the space of just a few years. And that's one of the reasons they want experienced citiaens OUT of the field, becasue these tactics are harder to use on experienced people. Your government's response to rampant fraud? Simple - get RID of people who understand it anything you ever thought you knew about ethics is out the window with these people - they'll screw you any way they can H-1b plays into this perfectly - bad reputations dont hurt you if you have the market stacked in your favor. the H-1b can take all this BS or risk deportation and that's why a texas democrat just introduced a bill for 309,500 more H-1b in high unemployment (see a couple of posts above fro details)- so employers can force educated citizens to accept all of the above "They call it The American Dream, because you have to be asleep, to believe it" George Carlin
Damn, What is wrong with our 'leaders'!? Has a dumber class of 'leaders' ever walked the earth!? The big problem with this 'global' economy is the third world is dragging us down to their level!! We need to outsource some of these lamebrain politicians!! I bet we could get some 'imports' to accept 1/10th of the salary of these 'politicians'!! Just think of the money we could save!!
Whine all you want stupid lazy Americans. This battle has been fought and won. Go crawl in some hole and die! Nobody cares about you. IT is finished and other professions are under siege and falling as stupid lazy Americans are shopping, overeating and watching TV. Want a job? McDonald's and Walmart is the place for you!
Export and share the bulk of America's Advanced Intellectual property to cut a broad swath across employee salaries so executive options will increase. Very smart security move.
they're not dumb, they're scum how much do you think this texas democrat got for selling out 309,000 citizen's livelyhoods? probably 10 cents each - and it wont bother him a bit (i kid you not, i woujldnt be surprised if that's what it came to, they sell out cheap) how does a man entrusted to represent his fellow citizen sell them out for a dime? Easy, the same way a whore turns her 11th trick - after the first 10, nothing matters anymore but the money
welcome to global income arbitrage. it will be the death of the American middle class. American students are smart enough to realize that the easy money is in finance or management. When there are good opportunities in science and engineering for Americans, they will magically start studying these fields again. Don't expect anything brilliant from our myopic politicians and business leaders
They are not dumb, they are taking care of their campaign contributors: Big banks, big employers and powerful unions. IT workers have no union. Get out and do something else. With the trader tax pending, not sure if it even make sense learning to trade anymore!
I worked in high tech 37 years. Many of the things you state about IT are correct. There are many entry or standard IT jobs where H1Bâs dominant the scene. However, this is not the case in higher skill set jobs like DBA. I retired from IT as a DBA manager to trade full time and few if any H1Bâs made it into the highly skilled arena. There were only a few who did cleanup of DBA tasks. The equation is simple cost versus risk. In IT the task is simple, an H1B can provide the low cost alternative or higher skills are need to mange risk. Many IT project mangers will not give riskier tasks to H1Bs because it put their job on the line. The last problem in this equation is finding qualified U.S. citizens in IT. Our educational system has been derelict for years in providing qualified IT graduates.
In this economy, many experience IT workers are out of work and willing to do more entry levels stuff even at H1-B pay. However, these Americans are not even considered.
