These threads often take on the aspect of a room full of theologians arguing about how many angels can fit on the head of a pin.

Ah, I see ... not content just to disagree with me: you have to question my level of understanding as well?

Please excuse my retiring from the conversation, in that case, but I don't choose to spend my time participating in that kind of discussion.

So feel free to contribute by giving specific examples.

Don't expect OP to tell you exactly what kind of capital he has or his experience level. Consider him someone that would like to venture into trading but first he asking about conflicting statements he read. I guess that is much better that entering trading world only to find out many years later there is was much better potential pursuing other ventures

By reading from OP's statements something he has never said, it is clear you didn't get it. I was simply disagreeing with you. Seems you're not content with someone pointing that out to you.

    could you be more specific?
seems like everybody is jumping on to almost criticize OP, knowing what OP's definition of small capital is... while that was not the point of his post.
Where are the specifics? Am I missing something here besides the fact that many don't understand why is his question asked. I wish I asked that question before I entered trading.

What's 10% per month on typical newbie retail futures trading account of 5k - 10k ?

No need to worry about who out there is right or wrong. The issue is this...can you make that 10% per month as in you have already done such ?

I'm sure you already know that answer considering you started this thread. :D

Thus, its best to be concerned about your own abilities instead of spending time/energy trying to deal with the abilities or beliefs of others.

    just some food for thought:

couldn't OP be a someone that just retired, has extra $100k capital that he/she wants to deploy, always thought about the trading but first wonders what kind of ROC can be expected realistically from daily trading once you learn how to trade and do it right?

Finding out it is i.e. 10-20% a year (after steep learning curve) he/she might decide it'd be better to deploy that capital differently.

the answer is no. anybody who knows something about life knows that those kind of returns are not possible except for the outliers for a brief period of time and then flaming out. one exception was hilliary clinton who made 100k in cattle futures then called it quits. how did she do it? it was a disguised political contribution by the broker who dumped a winning trade in her account.
whether the broker took the loss or whether it was taken from some other customer's account without his knowledge is a footnote in history.

Glad someone else knows about the details of Hilary Clinton brief career as a cattle futures trader. Also, it wasn't just one trade...she made many trades. Including 6k trade (they called it an investment at the time) into a 100k profit.

How many ETers can beat that ? 6k to 100k profit although some believe the trades were actually done by someone else. :D

I told someone about that and he didn't believe me. She also dabbled in wheat futures, hog futures and soybean futures. I think folks from down there like Arkansas prefer cattle futures, wheat futures, soybean futures, hog futures type of trades.

I wonder if Ivanka has done any trading ?

    :D
