Amazing find Guru, reading that really makes it seem like this is incredibly unlikely to even be considered and it is something that we can really relax about for now as for the time being this wont be passed.
Let's hope thats the case. This thread is pretty scary as well: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=154002 It sounds like maybe they are going to attack the futures industry and try and derail speculation there. I guess we'll see how that turns out and when (if) they turn on us? -Guru
I believe that is targeting the large deep pocketed speculators, not ET speculators. Nevertheless, just another unwelcome and unfriendly business policy changes among many to come from the Obama administration.
"We must write and enforce new rules of the road, to stop unscrupulous speculators from undermining our economy ever again." - President Barack Obama 2/14/2009 http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/09/0...ajor-milestone/ Surely he must be referring to those who engage in activity such as CDO's etc and those who design and develop these instruments. He can't possibly mean daytrading of stocks can he? -Guru
Hell no, those of CDO ilk are off limits, untouchable, campaign-political career contributors. Plus they don't need regulating, they know what they are doing, they are professionals. Much easier to go after the weak, voiceless, people of much lesser means, those that don't contribute spit to my campaign, to reassure and give the appearance to the rest of the population that they are doing all they can to fight the evil speculators. Your neighbor could be an evil speculator. Contact Comrade Headquarters if you suspect anyone of speculating in the already heavily regulated and taxed markets.
I wonder what "instant rules" will go into affect when/if US stock indexes take another leg down? The short ban didn't work, may as well "try" targeting speculation. Joe Sixpack knows speculation is evil too, so we have no fear of public outcry or a dip in the polls!
Germany is now considering the stock transaction tax according to Forbes. http://www.forbes.com/feeds/afx/2009/02/16/afx6056140.html +-*/ Math_Wiz
