  2. Yes this whole thread is just about an article, but with Democrats running things now, pheww.

But i also doubt that the US would just go head on with this without modifications.

"The first problem with this "transaction tax" is the idea that the level of transactions will stay where they are. Trading will simple stop in many cases and some of these "exotic financial instruments" will simple fail to exist. It won't take more than a very small tax to have a big impact, and you can be sure the law of unintended consequences will soon be at work. Wall Street is already losing business to foreign exchanges, and you can bet it will lose even more as trading moves to more friendly, less socialistic, tax environments."

  5. Futures traders pay INCOME TAXES on what they earn (if they earn).

The US has LOST its manufacturing base & now exists as a consuming country & a financial services economy.

By imposing undue taxes on trading & financial services, this ill-thought idea shall KILL what's left of the US economy.

Obama, who's from Chicago, has too many supporters who VEHEMENTLY OPPOSE any ill-thought out tax on traders.

Let's remember: When crude oil went to $147, yes, it's true big companies were buying oil....buy WHY? Why?

Why not cocoa, gold, corn, sugar?

ANSWER: I've been saying for over TWO YEARS that the RABIDLY bellicose nation of ISRAEL wants to drop NUCLEAR BUNKER BUSTER BOMBS, starting World War III.

In light of this situation, I'd buy crude too (And I did).

Let's not blame speculators - they're merely messengers. This ill-thought out proposal reflects anger that remains over crude's historic run-up.

    We're confusing two issues here.

I will personally protest if this bill makes it to a vote. It won't.

Instead, let's save $500 BILLION by pulling our brave men & women out of Iraq.

  6. You and others like you hope and assume too much.

The writing is on the wall and has been for a while. Meanwhile you delude yourself, avoid the truth and keep mistaking yourself into believing that those who make the rules have your best interests at heart, contrary to the actions that they take.

    Wake the fuck up.

Perhaps as some point we will realize that we cannot AFFORD to be policeman to the world... and let others settle their issues without US intervention... :(

  8. Agree, but then Russia and China will take over and... well you get the point :)

Europe is handicapped as the EU can hardly ever agree on anything.

  9. Good, let them. Lets close our bases around the world and get out of Iraq while we still can on our terms.

While many believe it can't happen, there will be a point where we can not continue to borrow and will have to start repaying what we owe

That would be OK. Let them spend their money.

Realize that after WWII, we felt we needed "eyes and ears" and allies around the world... for our own defense.

Things are different now. We don't "need" hardly any of that now.. it's all mostly a financial drain.

American should take more of an "isolationist" view (actually we can't afford NOT to)... we have enough technology to protect our shores from foolish aggressors. That's what we really NEED, and we have it...
