Actually one could argue that as of late corporate welfare has made up 100% of earnings, considering without being bailed out they would have went belly up. Republican view seems to be, welfare for the rich is very good when they screw the pooch, while if the working man needs a hand as a result of being screwed by the rich, fuck'em.
Corporate welfare....no such thing You say that when the Government taxes companies then through sweetheart deals reduces the amount of tax money the corporation pay...you call that a gift...giving their money back to them. On the the hand, When the Government redistributes money it is from one taxpayer and goes mostly to a non-tax payer
Sorry man, but you are so brainwashed to come to the defense of corporations...all corporations do is take, and do as little as possible to give back. They are pure mercenary in their practices. It may have been true during and post WWII that some corporations actually cared about America, but these days corporations are in it for themselves, their CEO's, board members, and profit no matter who suffers, or loses jobs, or how it hurts America. Corporations by their nature are like a shark. Sharks exist to eat, period. Corporations exist to make a profit, period. They are not about creating jobs in America, contributing to the good of society, or anything even remotely reflecting morality. Taxation and regulation of their practices which harm citizens and society as a whole are the only check on the corporations. Your vision of unbridled capitalism has a history of failure, time and time again. Power corrupts, and I can think of little as corrupt as the corporations and the pols they buy to do their bidding.
Corporations exist to make profit....you finally see the light... Corporations are not there to do anything more then they need to do to survive. How do you survive? Giving the public something they are willing to exchange one asset for another. Its the consumer that creates the corporation.
The problem you won't accept is that in nature there is a balance, there are shark killers. No one animal exists without a check from nature if they gain too much power. The mechanism for keeping the corporate greed has been dismantled slowly by the corporations influencing the public through advertising and marketing, lying, and most importantly their undue influence on politicians. In a more balance time in America, we had government regulations, proper taxation, strong labor unions, and politicians who had not completely sold their souls to the corporations. This balance lead to a strong middle class, something not every seen before in the history of the world. Working men were able to thrive, where in the past they would have been slaves, or indentured servants, etc. Power corrupts, and unbridled capitalism corrupts the capitalists... US corporations hold the citizens hostage, and that is not a good thing in the long run. I doubt you could actually detach enough to see, but unbridled power of any group is not health for a society. Too much power is now vested in the corporations, and brainwashed people don't even see that...they think corporations and unbridled consumerism will save them. Fools... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/philip-slater/an-economy-based-on-consu_b_144930.html
This thread is a case study in the lunacy that has captured both political parties. A post was made about 35% of all corporate profits as a direct result of government subsidy. Why would anyone dispute that? We know that financial services or the F.I.R.E. economy makes up the bulk of all earnings in this country and we know that they would no longer be functioning without the suspension of accounting practices along with generous bailouts and years of ZIRP. On the other hand, we also have witnessed extended unemployment benefits, 40+ million living off of food stamps, Section-8 housing, along with all of the public sector largesse. Hence, they are both sides of the same coin and do not represent the interests of many, many individuals who gain little to nothing from these subsidies. In most instances, they simply increase the cost of living and lower the standard of living. Unfortunately, the vast majority of individuals feel as if they have to pick a side in this shitstorm, instead of realizing that both of these situations are the by-product of the same broken system.
The Government is what gives power to the corporations. They do this by regulating them, forcing them to pay a minimum wage, giving them deductions for charity, TIFF;s, tax reliefs, no bid contracts...etc. This all hinders the only true check and balance, competition. Remove the minimum wage, government sweet deals, mandatory health care..etc Give new business a fair chance to squeeze into the market place with better products , better culture, better good for society. All things, if done on their own, will endear themselves to a more satisfied customer thus raising the bar for the next company to come along.
Sorry man, but you are delusional in my opinion. You are living in some fantasy reality that thinks capitalism solves every problem. Corporations have unbridled power to do as they wish these days, and they are not about what is good for America at all. Regulations are being repealed by the new GOP majority in the house, the right leaning Supreme Court open the floodgates for the corporations to buy politicians, the politicians both left and right are bag men for their corporate sponsors, labor unions are being dismantled, and the money is all flowing to the top...not to all of the people. Trickle down is a lie, and so is "competition in a free market solves all the problems." There is no such thing and a free market, and I assure you, if one were to exist...it would not stay that way, as those who gained power would change the rules to their favor as soon as they could. Why do you think in so many cities, businessmen run for city council, etc.? For the good of the community, or so they can grease the wheels for businesses to profit. Jobs for the people are not a goal of capitalism, they are a side effect which work when the corporations are restricted from moving offshore by taxation and other penalties. Right now, you have rules that favor business and profit that are out of whack...but do you see more jobs being created? Nope, because capitalism is actually consumerism. Major corporations are sitting on the largest amount of cash ever...and are they investing in new technology? Oil companies have never been fatter, and are they investing their untaxed ungoldly profits in the development of new energy? No way. Yet, people like you who are brainwashed into some thought of a Utopian fantasy where a free market solves all the problems. Just foolishness, and a detachment of the reality of the world today, globalization, and the information and technology age.
Get rid of any Government influence and "businessmen" will not run for political office. The Government games the system, protecting the strong and restricting the competition. Capitalism is only about making a profit. You make profit by HIRING employees who choose to work for your firm. Profit comes from making a better offer to the consumer then the next guy. Tax policy is a major influence on the flow of corporate monies. Take taxes out of the corporate world and watch money flow easier. Corporations have billions of profits sitting overseas but why bring that money back to the US and have to give 30% to a corrupt government.
Sorry, but you are delusional. With no influence from government, we would be China. China builds buildings with toxic materials, and they don't care. China builds buildings that are not earthquake resistant, and they don't care. China works their workers to the bone, and they don't care. China doesn't care about human life...if they lose 1 billion people because of predatory practices, unhealthy working conditions, unsafe working conditions...they are happy because that is 1 billion less people to feed. America at least pretends to care about human life... You really might benefit from some study of American history, were the capitalists of those days were Puritans and Protestants, and they believed in making a profit and creating a healthy society at the same time...they existed to meet a need, for which they got compensated. Today, we have consumerism in full gear, where Madison Avenue creates a demand for more consumerism...who has to have an Apple phone? We have unhealthy piggish consumerism, people are never content with what they have, and corporations/greedy capitalists who care nothing for America...just provide the Matrix for those who have become slaves to consumerism.
