You can maybe change somebody's mind on a specific but not their identity?

I find this to be on the nose with regards to MAGA and of course with normal people digging in to reject the tricks used by authoratarian rising stars.

In my real life men tend to be honest in my presence and I've seen similar admissions.

I'm reminded of my own revelation involving a guy on a language course who was flying back to the US for one day just to vote for Trump. I was not a politics junkie then and more open to viewpoints just in case they were not dumb.

I knew Trump was a scam artist and while I disliked Hillary I figured people supported Trump knowing this about him. They thought despite that he might fill their rice bowl tomorrow. Short term self-interest, sociopathic, but an understandable strategy.

Well that wasn't it. I walloped him with some facts about Trump's history and his response after a pause was very calmly 'I have to support Trump because all my friends and family do".

And that was it, fitting into his community, his identity, was the only thing that mattered.
