A person who self admits and identifies as a woke individual meets one that self identifies and openly admits he is a racist. Done in humor, but not too far from the things I've been hearing lately.
This whole thing nowadays of using words and labels like Woke and ______Lives Matter is fucking annoying. Rather than talking about issues and agreements, people are focused on tag lines, hashtags and slogans and defining and redefining etc.... then people end up arguing over bullshit rather than a real issue.
I don’t know if this is a “nowadays” thing. In a lot of ways this is what democracy looks like. At least among the non-elected population. What I can say is we are in a more severe state of disagreement between left and right than at any other time in my lifetime.
Yes I believe it is nowadays thanks to social media and issues being forced to be reduced down to a hashtag phrase rather than any explanation. The dumbing down of U.S. citizenry along with social media means the public can be swayed with a hashtag movement and little or no research and therefore summarize a whole misinformation with a catchphrase that can go viral. Rather than detailed speeches of feelings, policies, plans and politics of the days of JFK and MLK, we get those 1 - 3 word phrases that is thrown out lazily and than anyone can simply take it and twist it in social media for what they want. Cannot do that with those old speeches because you got them all there to listen and read...now it is just #bullshit.
Thomas Jefferson bought a newspaper and hired a corrupt editor for the singular purpose of slandering the Washington Administration while he was Secretary of State. It relentlessly attacked Alexander Hamilton without any regard for truth and reason. Imagine if Trump bought twitter just slander Nancy Pelosi. Abraham Lincoln was regularly depicted as a monkey, or black, or Jewish in many political cartoons. JFK and MLK were maligned in the press and ultimately assassinated. MLK famously wrote letters from Birmingham jail in response to open editorials written by other clergy unfairly criticizing him. People still give lofty speeches but to think that we got the civil rights act because of reasonable discussion isn’t accurate. We got the CRA by winning elections and mounting public pressure on the issue. Things were so bad people were getting killed.
