Anyone used one of the windows tablets for futures trading ? Will it run a DOM off of T4's trading platform ? iPad does not support a trade from Dom Something like this http://m.dell.com/mt/www.dell.com/us/p/dell-venue-8-pro/fs?un_jtt_v_d=45
Interested also. I'm definitely thinking about buying an inexpensive and light weight tablet for trading when I'm on the road. One that is dedicated for only banking and trading. Currently I do not feel safe trading from my lap top that I use for work and web browsing as well.
check out Asus Transformer tablets...up to i7 on one model I saw. Battery life decent/on par with most tablets. I have been using the T100 for the past few months and occasionally use it to run a limited NT configuration when needed.
I thought about something like this too. My fear is these cheap and thin/lightweight tablets don't have enough computational power. Sure you don't need anything fancy. But some have atom processors and not a lot of ram. Some of those desktop trading software use quite a bit. Also, looking at charts, options chain, portfolio and watchlist will be hard on a small screen. I normally like to see all at once and would hate to sacrifice for mobility by doing maximizing and minimizing of windows. Then there is the issue of trading over wifi... Well, maybe a VPN helps somewhat in that area.. but still. No trading in a starbucks wifi for sure. Unless its a special brokerage account with very small amounts of play money then I wouldn't mind. Ultimately, this is why I'll just use the mobile/tablet specific apps if available for ipad/iphone when on the go. Its probably already the working compromise. I'm not sure running the desktop version on a fully fledged windows tablet will provide any more advantage. For me, multiple screens is a must because there are too much info happening and I need to see it all. Otherwise, there are no differences to a normal mobile or tablet software.
Who is your broker? Many brokers have their own mobile trading software e.g. ThinkOrSwim etc. They are not bad and are designed to run on the low resources of an ipad or smart phone. Maybe there are other third party apps too but clearly I myself wouldn't trust that. I just don't know whether running a full fledged windows tablet to run desktop versions of trading software will really be an edge. The small screen, need for mouse (as the software was designed for), etc... ughh... On the other hand, a tablet app developed by the broker specifically for touch interaction will have bigger font/buttons and better GUI. To each their own though. If someone found a working solution running full fledged tablets and sporting desktop trading software I'd like to see how it goes. I considered the options and I don't see an advantage over broker ipad apps.
I brought Microsoft surface 2 pro running full windows 8.1on last trip...ran IB TWS fast and CQG front end great..but I highly recommend a standard mouse (USB). I have the type keypad ,but the track pad and touch suck compared to old fashion mouse. Still highly mobile and quite fast.
