Meh, most people don't perform the "right" exercises to grow. Squat, pullovers, row and you won't look wafer thin in profile. Deadlifts for overall power, chins for back and arms. Various presses for the rest of the upper body. No magic, just grinding with the right movements. By doing the compound movements even people who have no clue as to what muscle is being worked will benefit greatly.
I agree, and he touches on those issues somewhat. Just that I saw my issue in #1, and in part in #2. I need to eat more. Well, maybe a little bit, since I still prioritize leanness above all else. In any event, I can't expect too much at this stage in life. He mentioned shoulder development being important for upper body appearance, which I think is true. And also a bit depressing for me because I have ruined shoulders: two severed tendons in my left shoulder, and one on my right. I can still use them well enough for everything but laterals, front and side, but I hate that shit anyway. Unfortunately, there is no repair available apart from shoulder replacement, which I am not inclined to pursue, and the atrophy associated with the severed tendons cannot be reversed. And, yes, I'm all caught up on my swearing.
