Why is my order always last in line?

Whenever I use a Limit order, I seem to be the last one to get filled, regardless of when I placed the order. I once placed the order on the PREVIOUS day only to get filled just before the price was lifted. It's gotten so bad, I no longer use limit orders during the day. I can't tell you how many times I've missed my price target because I never got filled even though it "touched" the price. So I'm thinking whether the order is not sitting on the brokerage server and only sent out when the price is reached. Does anyone know if the order is sitting on the exchange or the broker?

Because the exchange allows HFT firms to attach a certain code to their orders that will get theirs at the front of the line. Your order is just sitting at the exchange at the end of the queue.

Personally, I'm aware of the "front running" issues by the HTFs. But I've been having this problem long before the advent of HFTs. You would think that with all the technological advances, this glitch would be solved by now.

Broker/dealer internalization and sale of order flow to wholesalers allow a small group of "big players" to jump in front of everyone else. This has been going on long before the term HFT was even invented (although this was always a sort of HFT). Do a Web search on the terms "wholesalers" and "internalization", and you'll find information on how this works and how it makes adding liquidity much more difficult for all the rest of us.

CME suggests first in first out is how their markets are setup, my personal experience suggests otherwise. This appears to possibly be false advertising.

The FIFO algorithm uses price and time as the only criteria for filling an order. In this algorithm, all orders at the same price level are filled according to time priority; the first order at a price level is the first order matched.

It is important to note that an order loses order priority and is re-queued when changed in any of the following ways:

    • Increase the quantity
    • Change the price
    • Change the account number

    FIFO Matching Example
    Using the FIFO match algorithm:

    1. Orders at the same price are prioritized by their entry times, with the oldest order having the highest priority.

What Asset class are you having problems with (futures, options and/or stocks)?
Are you using a "smart" route or DMA?

Can you see the first picture?me the first in the queue? Upon I deployed the sell short first, It was never filled in. I deployed the bid side fast (asuming the would be sell short hitting faster). Do you want what happened? Just the contrary.

In the second,(after low my price to a 0 profit). I was filled the last, looking how HFT teleported in front of me. Of course they know you are in.

This happens pretty much times. Even, when I wanted to sell, nobody wanted to buy me. Probably I was the only one in this market..., and HFs, are not going to loose from me.

  9. In CME/GLOBEX, it is advertised as FIFO, and that is my experience as well. HFT employs many different algorithms and colocation advantages, and they are screwing everyone over in Stocks. In CME/GLOBEX, as far as I know, it is not an issue. Yes, they can still respond faster than you can as the book changes, but they can not join the bid at the same price level you have an order at already, and be filled before you.

I suggest you guys follow nanexllc on twitter. Ask him. He may answer your question. That guy is an authority on these things and he has the data & analysis tools to back up his theories.
