Why did market jump Friday on strong job numbers? I thought that was bad.

  1. Why did market jump Friday on strong job numbers? I thought that was bad. The narrative so far has been interest rates will rise unless inflation and jobs go down...now jobs are up...so why'd the market take a strong job number as positive for equities?

why do you think the market took a strong job number as positive for equities? Do you think that was the sole piece of information?

  6. Explaining market moves with government data is useless.

  7. actually i wasn't trading friday; i'm not asking for a trade. Isn't this an educational/discussion site?

I hope you don't use that guesswork trading stocks lol.

  8. so why did the mkt jump in your opinion when strong job numbers were until recently since as a negative for equities.

I did not realize asking questions created such annoyances here.

  9. Bloomberg had a few analysts on during the reversal and they had no idea.

  10. Because the market was oversold, sentiment negative, cycles / seasonality turning positive so the market was ready to move upward. You need to question your assumptions about the relevance of government data, which also is lagging data.
