3 month ago me and my father open a IB account - instantaneous approval (i believe IB use a software to check data) Now some friends want open a IB and after 4 weeks dont get a answer yet
Maybe because we just had the biggest market schism in history, including crude oil, and IB is being a bit more fastidious into who they let into their family of clientele? Just a guess, mind you.

If you go through ET postings, there are soo many unhappy IB users. many IB users don't bother to do trading platform benchmarking. so pehaps IB want to screen out those who never practice using IB demo platform, or never read those info which are already available in IB webpage before contacting helpdesk. anyway many brokers are getting worried. many of us can't even trade front month crude oil even if we have $$$.
If all information is supplied at the time of account opening, depending on the jurisdiction, the accounts can be opened very quickly. However, if some documentation is missing or the account needs additional review - and there are hundreds of reasons for additional review such as location, occupation, information provided may need to be confirmed or not realistic, etc. You also mention 'friends' dual account, type of account etc. My suggestion: ask them to check their emails to see if they rec'd one from our accounts team requesting verification or additional information. Also check the message center under the portal and reply to any info requests. If none, then send a ticket via the portal asking for an update. If that fails me send me a PM with an account number and I'll ask the team to review. I would appreciate if you request they do the other items first.
