Does the US need to limit Chinese control over Global Shipping Lanes?

How do you see the China threat angle? Instead of evaluating the merits of the article you attack the source of the article. That is not a logical approach.

I don't believe it. Singapore's PSA is one of the largest port operators as well as France's MSC, Denmark's Maersk or the Middle East owned DP World. China is the world's largest exporting nation and thus has significant expertise in ports operations.
Port infrastructures are usually owned by governments who contract out activities to global shipping operators. The Chinese government doesn't own the ports, it owns a % of Chinese operators who manage port activities like their competitors.

Trump is simply setting up a shakedown for Black Rock and other investment firms to add an "ownership" layer over port operators where Chinese conglomerates operate. Since the US has no port operators, they would just contract out the business which could well go back to a Chinese operator.

i can undstand the chinese want to have more ports to manage and make a fuss about waterways, but hutchison is a britsh outfit, hsbc like.

li is knighted by the queen. british pensions and firms are its major shareholders, nearly 50%. it did business with hsbc and standard chartered. brits entrusted and privatized some strategic assets in hk before they packed. hutchison repatriated lot of money back to britain in the last decades in telecom and utilities sectors.

nypost is simply stupid in general, and american right wingers are not as clever as the british empire builders. i bet xi wants to forfeit li's money outright.

Do you have problems doing basic research or have TDS?
"CK Hutchison Holdings Limited is primarily owned by the family of Hong Kong businessman Li Ka-shing, who founded the company. Specifically, the Li Ka-shing Unity Trustee Company Limited holds 86% of the shares. The company also has other shareholders, including BlackRock Fund Advisors and BlackRock Advisors (UK) Ltd"
