The White House has floated the possibility of limiting or eliminating the proof-of-work mechanism that underpins Bitcoin and its blockchain network—a move that would strike a blow at the heart of the digital asset economy.

The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy recommended in a report Friday

that greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts stemming from crypto “mining” should be limited. The team called for standards for low energy intensities, low water usage, low noise generation, clear energy usage by operators, and standards over carbon-free generation to match or exceed electricity load that tighten over time.

IMO, the cryptos likely to go to zero without Gov't interference, but above may hasten the process.

  4. If the US banned BTC mining (which it 100% will not), mining will simply move off shore.

Idiotic move and completely unconstitutional, like everything else from this D.C. crime syndicate. The same administration wants to send millions of people back to their workplace instead of teleworking, which would drive up gasoline use and prices, and "greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts" if anyone (including them) really believes that.

Exactly right. You would think that private industry would be better at assessing what is better for their business, and going with that. If a happy employee is a productive employee, then perhaps this could be another factor.

But hell no. Lets disregard for is more profitable for the business. And lets disregard was is better for the individual. The government (supposedly elected by the people), gets to decide all of this. If individuals aren't happy, and if businesses aren't happy, who exactly is left that the government is doing all this for?

I assume miners pay their electric bills like everyone else, do not see the issue? I agree that BTC network is ridiculously slow and BTC price is a fraud, ithurts environment and etc, but outright ban is plain wrong and unamerican.
