Might as well stop funding and close all the high schools while they are at it. DeSantis and the Florida GOP Legislature love child labor.
Overnight on school days? End guaranteed meal breaks? I guess if they eat they might get too heavy and ladders ain't free.
My mom sent me a text about this last night...that was my first thought too but mom never lies to me. Unbelievable if other states do the same but not surprising considering the United States has been less protective of our youth in the state of Florida. I knew states like Florida would have a negative impact from Trump's immigration policy but not like this impacting our youths as a substitute for the sudden immigration decline...it's shocking and it will impact ethnic families much more. Hopefully, DeSantis will get off his meds and VETO this. wrbtrader
I remember it was on a different site, the removing over night bans was for home schooled kids specifically. But seems it's about right. https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2024/49/ https://www.euronews.com/business/2...elaxing-child-labour-laws-to-fill-vacant-jobs
I think I could add this to just about every thread these days: "The crisis takes a much longer time coming than you think and then it happens much faster than you would have thought." ----Rudiger Dornbusch
My dad used to intentionally make us cut and stack turf which is memorably hard work. We had a fairly big garden, lots of fruit trees and thorny bushes to pick as well. Made you strong as a horse doing heavy work young which was my dad's intention. Mind you that was from maybe eight. It was actually very common for sixteen plus Irish kids to go to the Netherlands and pick fruit for summers, one of my brothers did it, I was jealous of the adventure stories. Still, I unless the pay is good I can't see too many white kids wanting the work, maybe they will ban American Pickers so they don't get put off.
Still, its impressive they manage to keep finding new depths to sink to. This is pretty blinding gaslighting. Trouble can seem to suddenly be on you. I remember a friend from Croatia describing how she never saw the Balkans war coming and was in disbelief at how fast it took over.
