Where to get list of NASDAQ stocks?

Discussion in 'Educational Resources' started by Hunter2020, Sep 19, 2020.

  1. Nasdaq is retiring their old website. The old website had a section where you could download a list of all stock symbols in .csv format in one go. Their new website doesn't have this function, or maybe I'm not looking in the right place. Is there another place where I can download the complete stocks list with names and all?

  3. Groovy. I never knew Nasdaq had an ftp... (Oops it seems not official Nasdaq site but usable nevertheless).

BTW, what's the difference between Nasdaqlisted.txt and Nasdaqtraded.txt? Seems the latter is larger in file size.

I believe this is an official Nasdaq website/ftp, just separated from the main one.
I believe the difference between them is that every stock can be traded at any exchange, including Nasdaq, and whenever a trade occurs at Nasdaq exchange then they would be included in Nasdaqtraded.txt.
The other file is for symbols listed specifically at Nasdaq (which can also be traded elsewhere).

  5. Seems Nasdaqtraded.txt includes AMEX stocks whereas Nasdaqlisted.txt omits them. The former was what I was looking for...

Nasdaqlisted of course includes only the ones natively listed on NASDAQ. Nasdaqtraded seems to list every stock listed in US which is routable with them.
