    Hi,

To save me having to google search and filter through a bunch of BS,where is the best place to learn the basics about trading index futures for free please.

I am not looking to learn a strategy or anything but simply the terminology, market participants etc etc.

Like the BABYPIPS of this index futures or futures etc.

I'm not looking to learn about commodities or anything else.Just the indexes.

Thank you if you took the time to read this and even more so if you replied.

  2. The CME web site to start, then broker's websites are a great source of free education material.

    Hi Lou,

Thank you very much for this info.

    I will do so.

What broker would you suggest if I may ask? ( If you know of one with some good info )

Think of ET as the largest archive of trading material on Wall Street.
You've walked into the library and asked the librarians this question.

Our response is; " Well young man, you've come to the right place, why don't you sit down right over there, make yourself comfortable, put your feet up.
Maybe grab a cup of coffee while you are waiting and I'll rush around during my busy schedule and get you what you want. We get many first timers in our library but we don't expect them to read or research any of the archives, oh no, we will feed you the info from a plate.
Relax, work is a dirty word around here...."

But seriously, use the search function, there's a ton of stuff here - and guess what? IT'S FREE! :)

We offer futures but I can't give trading advice and our minimum account size to start is $25,000. Email me with your name and phone number if you would like me to call you this morning.

    Hahaha,

Was only asking the the librarians if indeed I did come to the right place and what floor I might start.

Strange how the others posted posted links and it took them 2 minutes to reply while it must have taken you 10min.What a way to add value young man ;-)

All jokes aside.Glad to know that you think I have come to a good forum board for info.I will and have and will continue to use the search function here and on google as it is how I found this website and am looking forward to digging in here!

    All the best,

PS - Never pay for something that is or can be completely free.
PS.S Never spend hours/days looking for answers that might take you 30 seconds to find the answer to if only you had asked.I might have been standing in the library or in the pub or even worse in dodgy broker's sales room.

I would recommend investing in a good primer like John Murphy's Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets to learn the nuts and bolts and then spend endless hours watching price development on charts. Watch different markets in different time frames. We all see things differently but tradable patterns should emerge from the fog at some point. You can then test trading ideas based on what you see. Expect to spend effort in shaping your behavior as well as that is where most fail.

You have to be very careful on ET as the place is well stocked with people who didn't do what is necessary to succeed and revel in coming in here to tell people that it can't be done. They are toxic..and wrong but don't underestimate what and how long it takes. This is a demanding profession.
