Rental property owners constantly talk about how rent control is bad (and in a theoretical sense it is economically unsavory). However, all of these places have plenty of land to build on. It's only through real estate lobbying and regulation that more houses can't be build. The lords want to keep gouging and gouging. So we should present two solutions: 1. Do away with regulations on land building in order to let the free market set the price 2. Enforce rent control You cannot have your cake and eat it to. Housing is at the bottom of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and the exact thing people will violently riot over. In order to keep the peace we should consider improving the situation rather than making it worse. If a one bedroom apartment cannot be afforded by a person making the median city wage you have a serious problem.
