"People often say that having an MBA or a degree in economics makes you a better trader. But does formal education really give you an edge in the markets? A finance degree definitely helps—it teaches you market dynamics, risk management, and economic principles. But trading is also about instincts, adaptability, and a mindset built through experience. Some of the best traders never stepped foot in a business school; they learned by doing, failing, and refining their strategies. So, is education the secret weapon, or is it something else entirely? Let’s talk about it!"
Academic degrees are theoretical in nature so unless you have a degree where the curriculum is geared towards real life trading or price discovery it will not be very useful. I had a minor in Finance at UCB and it was a good introduction to the world of Banking & Trading but it was mainly theoretical. BusAd 130 at UCB in 1990 was mainly a class about the CAPM theory which is a good introduction to the Risk Reward theory. I did have a class in Bond Portfolio Theory which was pretty good. It talked a lot about convexity and concavity of Bond returns. UCB has had a degree called MFE which is a feeder to the large global banks. Masters in Financial Engineering is mainly for risk mitigation for large equity & credit hedging.
Who said this? MBA is probably good if you want to be a CFO or COO. Or do longer term investing, private equity. As for trading, MIT ,UofC, a few others and Russian or Asian. Or go to a backgammon or bridge tournament and find a non-degenerate gambler; they tend to drift into options
I am In my bachelor of business administration first as for now all of my books are not advance or which I say they talks about real markets all of them are theory and I don't know why they gave me english subject which is completely useless. It's all about stories and paragraph i don't like this degree i think I will get something intresting in masters in economics and masters in finance. I saw some courses videos on Coursera. From Yale University and University of Chicago they were really good but too slow like a web series.
