What's the optimal RAM for algo trading?

I have two strats, so I need to have 2 charts open (minimized) with only price bars. The codes are pretty convoluted, so there will be some amount of heavy lifting. Is 8 GB enough?

While it's not actually possible to discuss algo specific requirements (it could be using literally something like 64 KB or up to hundreds of GB depending on what you're doing), there is a clear issue: Modern Windows takes a large chunk out of that 8 GB, especially noticeable once you have any additional kind of software on there. I regard a Windows machine with less than 16 GB as unusable.

With that said, just try it. If you algo is using too much memory, either get a beefier machine or optimize the algo's memory usage (if possible and your time is less expensive than the hardware).

  4. How the fuck can't you figure this out yourself or are you just lonely looking for a reason to ask stupid questions?

    Well, I've notice
No need to be so snarky.

If 8GB RAM is insufficient, how am I supposed to understand this from NinjaTrader VPS? I've always thought connection speed is paramount, but does RAM matter all that much?

  6. Ram is super cheap these days. I do intense algo stuff to calibrate option models but no automatic trading and 96gig has never failed me but I don't do windows only Linux

So you wouldn't run your scripts on NT's VPS? Their higher-end server offers "only" 16GB.

Send me the code and I'll tell you what you need.

  9. Absolutely not.. I would consider Amazon's vps but won't even touch Microsoft with a 10 foot pole and blame it on someone else

  10. We are elite traders, supposedly, and we are debating the $30 difference if 8GB ram is enough or is 16GB so much better,

That's like winning the lotto....and complaining if a Big Mac is $3.40 or $4.25 -- it's such a trivial issue within the greater universe,
